Physical activity remains essential in the reduction of risks associated with cardiovascular illnesses with the survivors who are physically active being at lower risks of the reoccurrence of events. It is believed that patients undergoing a cardiac surgery and have a decreased physical activity have higher chances of a complicated postoperative recovery (PCR) (van Laar, 2017).

Indeed, physical activity does well to reduce the risk of a cardiovascular illness making survivors of the cardiac event have lower risks of recurrent events and more so in the elderly. It remains true that little is known about the effect of the preoperative physical activity status on the surgical outcome of the postoperative endeavor (van Laar, 2017). In this regard, patients having a decreased physical activity remain at a higher risk of a complicated postoperative recovery although no evidence exists to show that the decreased PA is a suggestion of the PCR in the normal populous undergoing the cardiac surgery (Steffen-Batey, 2000). Numerous studies insist that physical activity provides suitable protection against any chances of cardiovascular illnesses and more so in the older generations (van Laar, 2017). Other factors such as an increased capacity in vasodilation, protection against dysfunction of the endothelium and increased sensitivity to the insulin further elaborate the effect.
