The mission of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is to provide reproductive health care and sex education that empowers individuals to make informed decisions and live healthy lives. The organization engages in various activities that enhance its mission sustainability and continue as a going concern. For instance, the organization engages in key functions such as creating awareness on reproductive health and advocating for the rights of individuals globally. The organization provides services such as cancer screening and prevention, sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, birth control, and hormone therapy ( Weydner, 2018). In addition, the organization provides infertility services, abortion, well-woman exams, and general health care. PPFA has many health centers that are accessible and affordable more than publicly funded healthcare facilities, especially on issues relating to family planning and contraceptive care. The organization believes that the free and joyous expression of an individual’s sexuality is key to being fully human. Moreover, the organization believes in trusting individuals and providing them with the information they need in order to make well-informed decisions on childbearing, sexuality, and family planning (Weidner, 2018). PPFA enhances mission sustainability in order to remain a going concern by promoting fertility and contraception control. The organization uses modern, effective, and safe contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies ( Giorgio et al., 2013). Also, PPFA advocates for the use of emergency contraception, which can be used by individuals after engaging in sexual intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In addition, PPFA enhances its mission sustainability by promoting cervical cancer screening in women. As a result, it helps to prevent maternal health issues that are caused by cervical cancer, such as abnormal virginal bleeding, painful sexual intercourse, and pelvic pain. Also, women are diagnosed with breast cancer by offering free screening services. The employees of the organization also advocate for vasectomy among men, which involves a surgical procedure to enhance permanent contraception or male sterilization. Besides, the organization promotes its mission of sustainability to remain a going concern by offering prenatal care services. The goal of the service is to provide regular check-ups for women to help prevent health problems that may arise during pregnancies, such as high blood pressure. Moreover, PPFA encourages abortion when a mother is faced with a health risk. In the year 2013, the organization conducted 4.6 million clinical visits and treated over 2.7 million patients ( Parenthood, 2015). In addition, more than 1 million pregnancy tests were done, and such women were provided with prenatal services. Therefore, the organization enhances its mission sustainability to continue as a going concern by engaging in activities that deliver accurate reproductive and sexual education in order for people to live healthy and happy lives. PPFA has a strong position statement on ethics and conducts its role in an ethical manner. The organization has strong values and makes ethical decisions, including the hiring of a diverse workforce to demonstrate its social responsibility. PPFA demonstrates social responsibility to its employees, clients, environment, and society. For instance, PPFA administers human resource management decisions and employee behavior that establishes social responsibility and fits the law. PPFA applies its regulations fairly to all employees and recruits staff members in a manner that reflects diversity, such as individuals from different cultures, gender, and race. Moreover, PPFA enhances respect for its clients, for instance, on issues relating to confidentiality. Also, it adheres to and implements the core principles of bioethics in its decisions, such as autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence, and justice. For example, PPFA has the moral obligation to act for the benefit of its patients without exposing their health at risk. In addition, when doctors of the organization are engaging in activities such as vasectomy, they are guided by the ethical principle of non-maleficence. The principle is used at PPFA to outline that doctors and nurses should not harm or inflict the least harm possible to their clients in order to reach a beneficial outcome. Besides, PPFA engages in various activities of social responsibility. For instance, the organization fosters local leadership through its young leader's forum. Young individuals are provided with internship opportunities where they are taught and equipped with basic leadership skills, such as effective decision-making. Moreover, PPFA fosters sustainable education and health programs for locals. The organization also engages in the provision of funding and grants that are meant to support family planning services in communities. PPFA fights for social, political, and legal improvements in society across the globe. PPFA fundraises its resources through various methods such as federal funding and door-to-door campaigns. PPFA receives funds from the federal government through the population research and family planning Act which was passed into law in the year 1970. Some of the common donors for the non-profit organization include Bill and Melinda Gates, Ford, Cullman's, Turner, and the Buffett Foundations. In the year 2014, the organization received a total revenue of 1.3 billion USD, with 392 million USD coming from the private sector. The various methods that PPFA uses to fundraise money include raising from individuals, foundations, and companies, and running mini-campaigns. The organization reaches out to foundations such as Bill and Gates to seek funding. Also, fundraising is done in the form of online donations, annual campaigns, events, and peer-to-peer. PPFA organizes for annual walks and runs that are geared at fundraising to support the organization's operations as well as create awareness of reproductive health ( Lawrence & Ness, 2017). Moreover, PPFA usually holds viral fundraising events that are geared at talking to its partners to sensitize them to hold small fundraising events and invite many possible donors. PPFA fundraises its money by saving on operational costs. In some instances, the organization is able to cut costs by approximately 2-5% of its annual budget ( Parenthood, 2013). The savings and donations from the organization's employees are used to support corporate social responsibilities, such as creating awareness of the legal rights of communities. Approximately 30 percent of PPFA's funding comes from grants and contracts from the government. Some of the external entities for PPFA include clients, donors, the government, the community, and its suppliers. PPFA seeks to have good relations with its external stakeholders by engaging in ethical practices. For instance, the organization has established a long-term relationship with the suppliers of medical and pharmaceutical products for use by clients. Moreover, PPFA ensures that its clients get the best experience and care in order to help raise awareness of sexuality and reproductive issues. Besides, the organization adheres to the laws and regulations imposed by the government and therefore enjoys a cordial relationship with the administration. The cordial relationship and compliance with government regulations have led to support and huge donations from the government. Moreover, PPFA is exempted from tax by the government. The organizations enjoy the trust of their donors due to the prudent use of resources donated. As a result, the donors donate on an annual basis as well as encourage other individuals and companies to donate. The community is the greatest beneficiary of the activities of PPFA. Therefore, members of the society are pleased with its role as well as help support the organization and adhere to its advice regarding sexuality and reproductive health. Volunteer management is one of the most important aspects of PPFA. The management of the organization keeps volunteers engaged, motivated, and excited about the operations. They are kept productive in order to remain useful to PPFA. In addition, the management of PPFA regularly thanks them profusely for their contributions. PPFA has created systems and processes that enhance the recruitment, engagement, coordination, and training of volunteers. Moreover, the organization has a successful volunteer management strategy that helps to reward, and recognize them. PPFA leads its volunteers by providing and restating its objectives and roles in society. Besides, the management of PPFA leads by example and engages in efficient, timely communications with the volunteers. In addition, PPFA responds to and implements feedback provided by the volunteers in order to help improve processes within the organization. Also, PPFA has invested in a program that focuses on training and empowering volunteers to help them utilize skills and explore their own strengths. The program is an efficient way PPFA manages volunteers to help streamline the process and enhance the quality of patient experience.
