Hallo and we thank you for joining us as we discuss a fundamental issue affecting the citizens of the United States.

Briefly state the problem: Empirical studies that were conducted vividly reveal that the water bottles that tend to be used by the United States citizens are usually not recycled. A study conducted by Sonia Sodha on January 28, 2018, recently indicated that 80 percent of the water bottles after use are generally not taken through the process of recycling. In analyzing this acute case of the number of unrecycled plastic water bottles, we need to identify strategies that will curb the issue in the United States society.

The issue drives me to draw my proposal that the United States should ban the use of plastic water bottles in the United States society.

II. Significance (define the problem in depth)

HARM 1: Keeping plastic water bottles causes environmental degradation.

Reports indicate that most of the plastic water bottles which have already been used tend to be dangerously disposed of by American citizens carelessly after they have served their purpose. Rick Leblanc June 01, 2017 reported that more than 80 percent of the plastic water bottles are not recycled after their use in the United States society.

Since the use of plastic water bottles is legal in the United States, most citizens are usually ignorant to play a significant role in ensuring that these use plastic water bottle have been recycled after their use.

Since the citizens of the United States are not regulated into the number of water bottles that they are required to buy, they do not follow up to ascertain if the water bottles that they have used have safely disposed been and recycled. The United States citizens tend to keep up the habit of buying more water bottles depending on their thirsty needs.

HARM 2: The single use of plastic water bottles is usually expensive.

Since the consumers of these plastic water bottles are not restricted in the number of plastic water bottles in the United States society, we get to understand that most of these citizens buy more plastic water bottles depending on their urge of drinking water. In Norm Schriever July 2013 blog, he vividly reflects on the expensive nature of utilizing plastic water bottles in the society.

Since 80 percent of the plastic water bottles are not being recycled in the year, costs are not usually not cut in the economy. In Norm Schriever July 2013 blog, he claims that plastic water bottle approximately worth $ 1 Billion is generally not recycled, thus meaning that recycling of the plastic water bottles will create an extra $1 billion to the United States economy.

The status quo will pose a threat to the future generation. In Conserve Energy future post reports that the lack of the government and its citizens taking responsibility to recycle this sued plastic water bottle will eventually lead to a coming environmental crisis. The United States environment would be filled with plastic water bottles which will at the time be a significant issue to control. Assuming that the 80 percent of the plastic water bottles are not recycled in the year, which is a large number, meaning in the next decade the United States environment will be filled with plastic water bottles.

The plastic water bottles tend to negatively affect the Ocean which is present in the United States. In Norm Schriever July 2013 blog, he claims that approximately eight million metric tons of plastic tend to float on the waters of the Pacific Ocean due to the lack of a reliable recycling program.

C. HARM 3: Plastic water bottles cause health complications or risks.

1. Plastic water bottles usually cause cancer. In Underground Health Reporter post reports that plastic water bottles are usually manufactured from polyethylene terephthalate which when heated tends to cause grievous health harm to human beings such as cancer and diabetes.

Plastic water bottles were first introduced in 1947. The plastic water bottles were invented to enhance the ease of ensuring that the citizens can access water at their convenience. The portability enhanced by these plastic water bottles played a significant role in rooting its extensive use in the American society. However, we cannot ban the use of plastic water bottles because the use of plastic water bottles is legal in the United States.

The regular use of plastic water bottles by the United States citizens tends to make it difficult to ban the plastic water bottles. The easy access to these water bottles has played a critical role in ensuring that the plastic water bottles has been a culture to most citizens in the United States.

The Congress will draft and pass a bill on banning the use of plastic water bottles in the United States as a strategy to conquer the issue.

Non-governmental organizations will be tasked with the role of educating the general public on the dangers caused by these plastic water bottles.

Corporate responsibility will be undertaken in the United States to ensure that plastic water bottles being sold by these companies are repackaged using other safe packaging containers which can easily be recycled.

The general public is taking an active role in dealing with the vice as means of creating a safe environment in which they can reside.

Deregistration of the companies producing these plastic water bottles as a strategy of ensuring that all plastic water bottles have been eliminated in the United States environment.

The federal government creating initiatives in which will aim on creating awareness of the dangers of not recycling these plastic water bottles in the United States society. Creating awareness will promote a sense of self-responsibility in dealing with the issue of disposal of plastic water bottles.

The state government is identifying other alternatives that can be used to repackage the water which will not cause environmental degradation to the United States environment.

Funding and Staffing

The United States federal government will levy fees for companies who will be found manufacturing or packaging their products using plastic water bottles. The revenue collected by the federal government in the form of taxes will be used to finance the activities of the plastic banning initiative in the United States. The staff that will be involved in this initiative include government inspectors and non-governmental environmental program employees.

HARM 1: We are protecting our environment.

The issue of the disposal of plastic water bottles will be mitigated due to the subject of the ban on of plastic water bottles. The citizens can acquire proper training on the dangerous disposal of these plastic water bottles that maintain a healthy environment in the society. The more than 80 percent of unrecycled water bottles will be eliminated in the future if this ban is implemented by both the federal government and the government of the state.

Since the Congress will pass the ban in the United States, the use of plastic water bottles will be illegal in the United States. Since the ban on plastic bottles will be useful, consumers will be regulated by using these plastic water bottles in the United States.

In Schriever, 2017 article states that plastic water bottles will be eliminated in the United States market thus leading to the potential saving of costs that will be incurred in the production of these plastic water bottles. Expenditure costs worth $ 1 Billion will be saved in the economy of the United States.

The status quo will be transforming.

The environment will remain safe from being degraded by these unrecycled plastic bottles.

VI. Advantages: The strategic plan of banning the use of plastic water bottles in the United States will have enormous benefits for both the citizens and the environment of the United States.

The banning of these plastic water bottles will lead to reducing environmental pollution in the United States.

The citizens will be aware of the harm caused by these plastic water bottles.

The costs of acquiring these plastic water bottles will be saved.

The regulation will save a potential future environmental crisis in the United States.

VII. Conclusion

As stated earlier, whichever team is most beneficial should win. The government has offered tangible reasons that will provide solutions to solve many issues that are caused by plastic water bottles as well as offering four independent pros.

For all of the above reasons, we politely ask and recommend for you to vote for a ban on the plastic water bottles in our society.
