The recent past has seen increased public outcry over use of excessive force by police on criminal suspects from minority communities. This issue has raised public concern after various cases of use of excessive police on unarmed black suspects came to the public limelight. The police as law enforcers are expected to observe fairness and justice when it comes to law enforcement. However, the current statistics reveals that minority black people are likely to be jailed than the white people. Justice has been an issue in regards to the American criminal justice system as currently constituted. Police racism has been cited as one of the challenges that have affected the execution of law and order in communities. The focus of this study would be to analyze police racism as practiced by the police as they execute their functions. Police racism through use for excessive force on people of color is an issue that dilutes the public confidence of on the police and the criminal justice system.

My choice of this topic on police racism is guided by the recent street riots to condemn the acts of violent shooting of black criminals. The issue of police racism has become a matter in the public domain as more cases of police shooting of suspects from minority black communities increase (Harris, 2018). I have the passion to undertake a research on this subject due to the need to unearth the key issues that are related to use of violent force against suspects from minority black communities. This is a major subject of my interest because the police play a central role in enforcing law and order. The police are at the heart of the process of keeping peaceful communities, and promoting coexistence. If the current trends and patterns of reported police racism continue, the public may fail to trust the police and this may lead to unlawfulness (Stephen, 2017).

The specific aspects that I anticipate to pursue in my research include the statistics on the use of deadly force across different racial neighborhoods. Taking on this research would enable me to know the possibilities that deadly force is used more often in minority neighborhoods as compared to other areas. Secondly, I would focus my research on establishing the cases where the police shot unarmed suspects from the black minority communities. Having a deeper understanding of this is critical in the process of finding evidence on police racism in the United States (Weisburd, 2018). Thirdly, the focus of my research would be to find out the recommendations that would need to be adopted to solve police racism. The fact that there is this problem in the US means that solutions have to be developed. The proposed research will delve into finding the appropriate recommendations that could address this problem.

Conclusively, I look forward to employing both primary and secondary data sources in gathering information on police racism, its impacts, and remedies. In order to do a credible research, it would be important to use a diversity of sources including books, journal articles, and credible online sources. The choice to use a diversity of sources is deliberate for the purposes of boosting the validity and reliability of the research findings. In addition, use of a diversity of sources would allow the research to gather sufficient information that is required to address the research questions.
