Abstract

Intelligence plays a vital role in policymaking. The relationship between intelligence and policymaking needs to have a sense of balance for it to be essential. The parties involved in policymaking and intelligences need to adequately the parameters of this relationship and ensure it works effectively. Any flawed-intelligence can lead to wrong policies with negative impacts. Therefore, the policymakers need to ensure thy have factual intelligences before formulating policies. This lesson of the DRNC event is an important one for General Warren and his security term to learn and with to plan for political events competently and effectively. Most of the time, the intelligence role in policymaking is sometime overlooked when analyzing and planning for political events. This paper clarifies the role of event planners in the relationship between intelligence and policymaking. The article examines what General Warren should have done differently to avoid the protest during the DRNC events and even during the protest how he should have effectively handled the protesters.

Discussion

Planning for the DRNC event needs to start early. In line with Müller (2015), properly preparing for a political event takes a lot of time and resources. One needs to ensure, he/she has sufficient time and resource to execute since this is critical to the success of the event. Many recent studies recommend that General Warren should have taken almost six months planning for the DRNC event. Besides, the event organizers need to map out the potential attendees and create a relational organizing strategy. This enables the organizers to identify any potential mishaps and mitigate them. Event organizers also need to involve the entire event team and leverage every DRNC event channel. They should effectively analyze the intelligence report and come up with informed decisions about the event.

Furthermore, planning for an event such as the DRNC event needs a lot of focus on the security part. DRNC event is an event attended by lots of people from different backgrounds, and therefore security should be of utmost importance (Bennett & Haggerty 2012). For instance, Major Warren should have ensured he had enough security to protect all the people in an eventuality of protest. The security and police forces used for such events should be highly trained on how to handle protestors peacefully. Additionally, Major Warren should have used the intelligence sources to identify potentially violent attendees of the even and use strategic incapacitation to remove them and counter any violence that may result from the aggressive protesters during the DRNC event.
