What interested you in the lecture, and why?

The most exciting thing that I found in the lecture was learning about the culture of the Polish people. It was enlightening to understand the basis of the traditional and beliefs of the polish people which revolves around the agricultural calendar. This tradition goes hand in hand with the catholic church traditions as they celebrate the saint’s day at the same time of the year with the polish people. It was interesting to learn that polish people believe in good and evil that gives a corresponding belief in the devil as this is the same belief that Christians have. Such beliefs indicate that the polish people still hold on doing good deeds as evil deeds have negative consequences. It was as well interesting to learn that land was an essential commodity for Polish people as this indicates that they hold land in high regards. The main thing that drove the Poles to occupy America was mainly because of land. The fact that Polish people regarded land means that they were individuals who had a passion for agricultural activities.

What are you going to remember from the lecture? Explain.

The most important thing that I will remember from the lecture is the family structure of the Polish people. I learned that the polish has a nuclear and patriarchal family structure. Their prolonged stay in America, however, made them adapt to the way Americans live, and this called for them to provide vital roles for women in the family. In the past, Polish Americans were restricted to only marry from their communities, but this changes as they adapted to a new environment. It is interesting to learn that the Polish people had to do away with some of their traditions as they adapted to a new way of life in the United States. The Polish wedding procedure involves unique arrangements that include a wedding evening and the symbolic unbraiding of the virgin hair. I cannot forget the customs involved in their wedding ceremonies as well as their unique family structure.

What did you learn from the lecture? How would it benefit you?

I learnt about Polish people in the lesson, and this helped me to understand more about their background and cultural practices. I gained an insight into the earliest colonies in America who included the poles as they presented the largest Alaric group in the country. The lesson taught me more about the cultural aspect and the traditions of the Polish people, and I learn how they celebrate essential occasions like childbirth and weddings. Polish people have fascinating traditions and beliefs that revolve around the agricultural calendar, and this is something that I had no idea about before the lesson.

How relevant was the information for you?

The information about the culture and the way of life of polish people were significant to me as I leant something new that I did not have any idea about. Additionally, it helped me to realize that the Polish people have a unique way of celebrating significant events, unlike most of the other cultures. Additionally, knowledge about the Polish holidays enhanced my understanding of the fact that they hold two significant holidays annually.

If you met a Polish American person today what would you ask him or her? What would you have liked for them to ask you? And what would you have answered?

If I met a polish American person today, I would inquire if they have any other traditions that they used to practice in their home country that they no longer practice due to diversity. I would have liked for them to ask me about our cultural practices and how we hold important ceremonies so that I can compare my customs with theirs. If asked about our cultural practices, I would have answered that we are allowed to get married to anybody despite their background which is the opposite of what the polish people could do before they settled in America. I would have told them that our wedding ceremonies are simple and done in a church with few family members, and there are no unique customs associated with the same.
