Animals’ rights is a major topic in environmental ethics. According to environmental ethics, it is critical for human beings to co-exist peacefully with other organisms in nature and conserve the environment. However, people face many ethical dilemmas in making environmental choices, and this influences their actions. Animal experimentation in scientific research is a controversial topic that has elicited varying opinions from environmentalist experts and the general public.

The proponents of animal experimentation argue that the practice is vital for the discovery of effective, medical treatment in the world. Human life is precious and should be protected at all times. Since diseases pose a major risk to the survival of people, scientists are constantly looking for medicine to treat diseases. Scientists often test the medications and treatment options on animals before introducing the developed solution into the market for use in human beings. Therefore, the advocates of using animals in experiment argue that it is the most viable way for the successful development of drugs.

However, the opponents of animal experimentation contend that animals used in research are subjected to pain and sufferings in the hands of the scientists. For example, these animals receive electricity shocks, burns, or are injected with fatal medicines that lead to their death. Therefore, it is morally wrong to endanger animal lives for the survival of the human race. The opponents of animal experimentation argue that other alternatives should be used for drug testing purposes. For example, undertaking drug testing using human subjects and following the ethical principles of research involving people. As a result, the application of drugs is reliably tested without risking the lives of any living organism. However, the only drawback with this argument is that it takes time and some people may die before the successful completion of the tests.
