Multiple studies have revealed that the world’s population growth poses adverse threats to the environment and human health among other things. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), the global population is growing at a rate of about 74 million people annually. The impact of population growth to human health conditions is associated with the per capita consumption, the size of the population, and the environmental damage caused by technology utilized in production of goods. More population leads to more demand for resources, which means more is harvested from the environment lading to depletion of natural resources. Environmental damage means that the life supporting systems such as trees are depleted leading more accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which is harmful to health. In addition, the development of more industries to manufacture the products obtained from the environment leads to air and water pollution, which are hazardous to human health. For instance, the 1.2 people in developed nations consume about 67% of all resources and produce 75% of pollution and waste, which pose significant threat to human health (CDC, 2014).

Population growth can create public health concerns for communities by influencing the planning of community health and medical amenities. Growth in population results in changes in population density, internal migration of racial groups, and changes in age composition, which makes it challenges to adapt to health program to address the emerging new problems, thereby leading to public health concerns. Additionally, population growth results to increase in spread of infectious diseases, which might present serious and direct danger to the health of the people in a community (CDC, 2014).

These public health concerns for communities can make an impact upon the emergency workers responding to those concerns. For instance, the emergency responders may be at risk of being infected with the diseases especially if it contagious, they may not understand the health conditions affecting the community thus experience challenges in attempts to contain it, and they may lack sufficient resources to address those public health concerns thus affecting their profession or health negatively (CDC, 2014).
