Port Authority Police Department

Injustices such as crime and terrorism attacks that have taken place in the United States of America has caused redefinition of the law enforcement policies and department when it comes to provision of security and order in the countryIntroduction 

The American community  has suffered intensely  under the tTerrorist attacks, and the process  has led to the country establishing different mechanisms that have to be followed to promote security. An example is the September 11 th 2001 9/11 attacks that took place in the United States of America  . Among the effects of the attack include  loss of human life, destruction of [property and , the decline in the economy, and a challenge in the law and enforcement agencies  . Analysis of the 9/11 events events before and after the attack  brought an insight indicating that there was laxity among the police department and which allowed for the terrorists to take advantage of the law enforcement agencies tasked with security issues in America organization  . Further, it was identified that the ports of the United States of America provide a loophole for penetration of individuals with illegal activities immigrants as well as terrorists to enter the country and conduct their illegal activities  . The reason why  Tthe topic  was selected selected is to identify the role that the police department, Pport AAuthority Ppolice Ddepartment  (PAPD) are doing playing in providing security as well as law and order at the American ports. The focus will be on pillars used by the Port Authority Police Department as well as mission and vision applied by the PAPD. 

The topic is about the roles and actions that are undertaken by the Port Authority Police Department.  The paper will discuss the mission statement of the department, the challenges, and mechanisms that they are using to overcome difficulties and involvement of the community in making sure that the activities of the organization are a success. The members have expertise and vigilance, which is viable and helps in keeping the regions moving in a smooth as well as secure manner  . The mission, therefore, indicates that the Port Authority Ppolice Ddepartment is keen on providing peace of mind through ensuring there is world-class protection of the citizen and the country. The Office of the Chief Security Officer also has a mission in of promoting safety and security aspects. The purpose  is to ensure that there is a protection  of the Port Authority's customers, the employees, protection of the general public and also securing  all the critical pieces of infrastructure that are needed for development purposes in AmericaSafety and Security process by Port Authority Police Department The process  includes actions such as implementing, managing to develop and preserving all the projects that are life and property in the United States of America. The business objective of the agency is to strengthen the resilience and achieve continuity of the activity operations. 

Vision 

The ports Authority Police department also has an idea that guides the employees and management in the organization to achieve the desired objectives in the company. The idea is to ensure that there is a provision of the highest quality when it comes to public safety, the security operations in the facility, emergency management, airport rescue mechanisms and even engaging in firefighting techniques ( Port Authority Police Department, 2020) . The employees are subjected to relevant training programs to have the required skills that will help them adapt to the ever-changing threats and risks occurring in society. Further, in the vision, there is a reflection of the most advanced technology techniques that, when implemented, helps in promoting practices and security measures in the organization ( Port Authority Police Department, 2020) . Further information identified in the vision of the organization is to ensure that there is a commitment achieved towards gaining knowledgeable, skilled, and trained employees who will handle duties in the Ports Authority Police Department. The department has professionals in all the major sectors to make it useful in maintaining a safe and secure field in American ports. In general, the Ports Authority Police Department is the leading agency in the protection that is being conducted in Ports Authorities. The department has skilled staff and who are dedicated to their actions and activities in the organization. Further investigations show that the department has reached record staffing levels. With the recent graduation of a total of 113 police officers, the total number of staff members in the organization is estimated to be 2100 ( Port Authority Police Department, 2020). 169  .  It is the highest record of employees ever in the institution. 

The public also has to be protected in the vision and mission statements. The department understands that there is an ever-changing threat, and there is a need to adapt to the ever-changing threat. The process requires the employees to have diligence, strong adaptation, and constant testing, as well as even the deployment of new tools. However, these tools can cause hindrances in the work of the employees, and there is a need to subject the employees to training so that they have the required skills needed to handle these tools ( Port Authority Police Department, 2020) . The department acknowledges that they have embraced their security operations, which occur  across transportation facilities. Thus, these aspects are at the forefront, and the organization is using them for testing and utilizing new technologies that will help in providing security to the ports authority and public in general. These are mechanisms that show the commitment which the department has when it comes to strengthening the Port Authority Security. There are close collaboration and partnership with the federal as well as local partners.

The Ports Authority Police department ensures that the community perceptions and opinions are included in the decision-making process of the agency (US Department of Justice, 2020). Through these mechanisms, the community will help in providing legal information that can be used in promoting protection and security in the ports and to the general. Building trust and legitimacy also focuses on researching the different crime-fighting technologies that can help in promoting trust and overcoming the challenges that might hinder the vision and mission of the Ports Authority Police Department. 

The second pillar worth a discussion is that the department uses in completing their tasks and achieving success is the community policing and crime reduction. The department recognizes the role that the community members play when it comes to the generation of information and insights about crime. Hence, the pillar states that the department has understood the importance of the policy, and they have invested in community policing where the community members are involved in the managing of public safety. The establishment of a Pports Aauthority Ppolice Ddepartment  was an instrumental pillar that managed to help achieve safety and minimize illegal activities taking place through the ports. ts. The mission of the ports is to ensure the safety and protection of the public as well as infrastructure in the nation.  The organization uses different pillars  and collaborates with other agencies  to achieve the objective  .PAPD depends on In this discussion  , building trust and community policing as the are the discussed pillars that the institution uses for success purposes and the provision of safety. Education and awareness creation among the employees in the Port Authority Police Department should be a factor for consideration. The training will improve on the employee skills and provide them with an opportunity that they can use to meet the PAPD objectives as well as their personal objective. The PAPD should also ensure that these employees are supported by adequate resources that is time and financial resources which they will combine with the available human resources. Success of the mission and vision of the PAPD will be achievable by having clear guidelines that the employees need to follow and implement accordingly. Moreover, it is effective to apply constant monitoring and evaluation at the PAPD to eliminate barriers that the employees face while addressing objectives of the police department. If I were a leader in the organization, I would use a transformational leadership process. Transformational leadership allows for both the top level and middle level management to interact and share ideas that will help the PAPD meet their objectives and provide safety in the ports. Further, development of a strong communication platform will be my recommendation as a leader in the Port Authority Police Department as it creates connection and exchange of information among employees.
