There are a large number of patients who use prayers for their health. Patients with chronic illnesses have proven to turn to prayer during the period of illness. An article by Jors et al. found that the main reasons for prayers are for assurance, disease-centered, lamentation, among others (2015). Despite the patients praying fo the relief of mental and physical suffering, prayer also helps these patients to change the experience they have had with the illness positively.

The mental well-being of patients is vital as it helps them fight chronic illness, and spirituality is one effective way. The patients need hope and encouragement, which they can get from healthcare professionals by encouraging them to pray. However, in some cases, prayer might discourage a patient who is hoping to get better but is only getting worse day by day. Such a patient will feel that their prayers are not being answered, and they might lose hope along the way.

This complimentary method will help to enhance the patient’s spirituality. In most instances, praying is used as a way of speaking to God directly, and cultivate g into the patient the knowledge of Christ and his role when one makes a request is vital. A patient who prays is more likely to fight the chronic disease through their hope in Christ’s role in their healing, which will play a significant role in them leading a healthier life without stressing.

Patients with chronic illnesses use prayer as complementary medicine, and while some people see its effectiveness, some might tend to lose hope along the way. However, it plays a vital role in helping patients hold on and fight the illness through faith that they will eventually be healed. This can help save a number of lives.
