Health precautions during pregnancy are very critical. For example, environmental pollutants among other things have a significant adverse effect on the health of baby during pregnancy. Air pollution exposures during pregnancy increases the risk of low birthweight or premature birth, and congenital birth defects such as childhood asthma.

The types of precautions pregnant women can take in order to ensure a healthy baby include the following: they should avoid exercising near high traffic areas due to the high-energy expenditure that can increase air pollutants amounts to the lungs. Additionally, they can check out the news reports on air quality and can use this information to have awareness when to stay indoors when levels of pollution are high. Moreover, they should avoid exposure to cleaning products and paint fumes, keep the home free off dust and mold, and use air purifier indoors ( Rudnik-Schöneborn & Wallgren-Pettersson, 2019).

Impact of not taking Health Precautions

If the women do not take these precautions, this cannot be considered a form of child abuse because in most instances, the circumstances are out of her control. For instance, she has to drive to work on a daily basis; she might find herself on the high-traffic areas thus exposing her to air pollution. Additionally, the woman may not have access to air-quality check reports or health precaution information for pregnant mothers (Walters et al., 2017). Therefore, the woman cannot be accused of child abuse if she fails to take the health precautions during pregnancy.

Government Responsibility

The government is ultimately responsible for these congenital outcomes because environmental pollution is a national problem caused mainly by increasing urbanization and industrialization. The government has a responsibility of ensuring environmental pollution is minimized to the lowest level possible. It is crucial for the government to put in place strict environment laws against pollution to promote sustainable environment that is clean and safe for humans (Mayer, 2015).

Conclusion

Therefore, a safe and clean environment is crucial in promoting a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby because it will help to prevent congenital problems among other health problems.
