As the Privacy Officer for Quality Hospital, I would make it my duty to ensure that our health care staff are well informed about HIPAA so that they can be in the know in order to avoid conflicts with the law. For my upcoming training, I would invite all the hospital doctors, all the nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, the billing officers, records department personnel and the hospital administration. All these persons are under the category of people referred to as covered persons under HIPAA privacy rule. They are covered in the sense that they are involved with handling of identifiable patient information which is regulated by HIPAA privacy rule.
The topics that I would cover include; Introduction to HIPAA privacy rule, covered persons and facilities under the HIPAA privacy rules, transfer of patient information, disclosure of information to the patient and other parties and storage of patient data ("Summary of the HIPAA Privacy Rule," 2013). It is important to have a good understanding of this information because it would ensure that the health workers are well aware of what is expected of them and this would reduce litigation cases against them. These pieces of information as the key tenets of HIPAA privacy rule and therefore a must know for all the covered health care workers.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
I would make sure to hold the trainings regularly. At least three times a year and if a new batch of health care staff joins the institution, I would make sure to organize a training session for them as soon as possible. After every training, I would make sure that I keep a record of people who were in attendance so that if in future, if one of the healthcare staff got caught up in cases of violation of the privacy rule, they would not accuse me of not doing my job.
