In order to properly analyze patients’ data, nurses need to understand how to make use of the available statistical tests and data analysis tools. Proper understanding of how to apply these methods and tools enables nurses and other healthcare providers to produce more accurate results that will prove beneficial to the patients and in research. According to Polit et al., (2017), the results obtained can be used in preparing reports which are useful in providing guidance to the appropriate and relevant authorities in the implementation and provision of high-quality services to the patients. As such, a statistical background is key as it allows nurses and other healthcare providers to comfortable plan and executes their tasks in a desirable manner.
As per the book provided chapter 19, the focus is on inferential kind of statistics which purely utilizes probability during the analysis of research evidence or patient data (Polit et al., 2017). The calculation involved does not make use of actual values but provides the desired results as an estimate. Variables obtained from a representative small sample control this type of statistical tests and methods. Data collection is performed in various positions and estimate parameters are obtained. This means that, these parameters do not represent the actual/real situation but are near accurate.

The commonly used inferential statistical tests and methods are variance analysis, chi-square, and t-test. These tests have been used over a long period of time in research work and have since proved important in the generation of estimated but near accurate values and research outcomes. Their usefulness is seen in their ability to provide data variation’s measurement as well correlation between various data sets under study. Analysis variance has been utilized in the provision of graphical regression and correlation of the data being analyzed. Polit et al. (2017) outline that these tests are employed when there is need to curiously investigate and proof the data being investigated or analyzed. As a result, these tests have been extensively used in serious research studies as they have been found to generate highly valid outcomes.
In summary, statistical methods and tools are important in the evaluation of various data that is of great importance in nursing research and practice. Additionally, the importance of these methods and tools is observed all the healthcare disciplines as well as other fields outside the healthcare practice. In general, statistical method and tools which facilitate the generation of estimated but desirable results are important for every existing profession and has to be embraced for better research outcomes.
