Code of conduct is the guideline of all the required behavior under a particular profession but most of them apply in all the professions since they are aimed at ensuring ethical and moral behaviors. There are many principles that tend to be used in establishing a code of conduct thus in this essay I intend to discuss honest and integrity. Honest and integrity is the first principle of professional code of conduct. Additionally, honesty and integrity are ethical principles that are based on telling the truth at all times and they are not dependent on the consequences (ITI, 2013).

Advantages

Honesty and integrity leads to credibility and trust. Trust is fundamental in all sectors and enables fostering of positive emotions and qualities of personal behaviors. When one is guided by the code of conduct to always tell the truth ensures that the person has no guilt conscious that may be result from dishonesty just as the saying claims what goes around always comes around. The trust one gains from being honest makes them gain respect from others whereas dishonest people tend to lose their dignity (ITI, 2013). Trust also ensures self-esteem and confidence since one has nothing to lose.

Challenges of Living up to Honesty and Integrity

The temptation to tell a lie or turn a blind eye due to conflicting interests or gain makes people dishonest. There are times when professionals may tend to be economical with the truth to gain for instance, promotion or monetary gains. The simple temptations lead to continuous dishonesty in the long-run and result in loss of dignity and self-respect when one realizes that they did not gain anything due to the guilt conscious that follow and the loss of credibility from others (ITI, 2013).

Conclusion

Honesty and integrity will make workers better since they will gain trust that is fundamental in any given work environment and ensure credibility (ITI, 2013). Workers who consistently follow the code of conduct will become more confident and self-respect that is necessary for workers to make better judgements.
