The society relies on nurses to stabilize the health status of the populace by providing safe, quality, and evidenced-based healthcare services. The nurses should ensure patients safety while discharging their duties. They also must ensure quality care as this is the best approach to gain patients and community trust. Therefore, Quality and safety, evidence-based practices, leadership, and community health are areas where a nurse must be keen to look into while undertaking their duties.
Quality and Safety
Quality and safe care for the patients are the pillars that guide me while undertaking my duties as a nurse. Increasing the safety of the patients in my view involves making the patients understand all the procedures involved in treatment from diagnosis to patient management. It also consists in allowing the patients to ask and answer different questions and concerns they have about the treatment procedures. As a nurse, I want the patients-nurse relationship to have its foundation on trust, and this is why I prefer transparency as a way of increasing patients' safety. In this manner, I prefer communication with the patients to understanding their culture, their view, and their perception concerning what may work and what may not work for them. I also prefer analyzing the patients' treatments and family backgrounds, as these are ways that help me understand the interventions that may work well with my patients. I aim to avoid errors and minimize any risk that may jeopardize the patients’ safety.

People build quality care on the ability to understand the scope of care. As a nurse, I have to provide the best I can to save the patients' situations. In this manner, I strive as a nurse to ensure that I understand the patient's needs to help give them the best care services. I guarantee that I understand the diagnosis, provide the correct medication, and be available and monitor the patients during wards rounds as these are ways that increase care quality for them. I also give hope to the patients by finding time for sharing with them. I allow them to share with me their feelings, and I show compassion to them. Protecting the patents data, engaging them in treatment processes, and monitoring their conditions are other ways I use to provide quality services for the patient.
Evidence Based-practice
As a nurse, I should ensure my decisions while undertaking my duties are based on facts that can be medically or scientifically proven. Thus, evidence-based practices are a matter of importance in my case. Reading nursing journals and books are critical as these act as my references while undertaking my duties. Further, I ensure that I consult with my colleagues and other staffs from other specialties to avoid making mistakes which can be harmful to the patients. Five steps guide me as I strive to offer evidence-based services to the patients. I first formulate the question based on the facts I have concerning the patients. My second action is to acquire evidence based on the question. For instance, I would acquire whether minor surgery, as opposed to medication, would work for patients. My third step is to assess the evidence to determine its effectiveness. I would then review the evidence and consult about it then apply it appropriately to the case.
Applied Leadership
Leadership in nursing is becoming the heartbeat of quality care while in the hospital. Applied leadership is essential for my case as a nurse because it will enhance my collaboration with other nurses and staffs within the hospital. Applied leadership will also help understand the management part of nursing, as this is critical during nursing practice. The core to applied leadership in nursing, in my view, is emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is about understanding the emotions and guiding them appropriately while socializing with people. It entails being aware of the personal strengths and weaknesses and learning to regulate them appropriately during interaction with the patients, and others staffs in the hospital. It also entails motivating the teammates and the patents and developing social skills which enable proper interaction and communication. Empathy is also essential as nurse leaders. Emotional intelligence is the core of my applied leadership while discharging my duties as a nurse.
Community and Population Health
My duty as a nurse is not only to treat the patients and liberate them from their suffering, but also to ensure that the community and the population are aware of ways they can use to avoid being sick. Healthcare promotion is, thus at the center of ensuring that the community remains sensitive to minor issues that can lead to an outbreak of various disease. I guarantee that education about hygiene, ethical behaviors, and self-protections are part of my duties while interacting with the patients. Family planning, healthy diet, encouraging physical activities, and encouraging people to seek for primary care are part of my responsibilities to ensure that the population and the community as a whole are sensitive to matters of health.
In conclusion, my duties as a nurse are grounded on core issues that conjoin to facilitate the welfare and the wellbeing of the patients, nurses, and the community as a whole. At the root of my duties as a nurses are patients' safety and quality care, evidence-based practices, applied leadership and promotion of health to elevate the health status of the community and population as a whole.
