Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

The work breakdown structure is essential in highlight all the key aspects that a project manager ought to consider when embarking on a given project, as it seeks to define the objectives (Harrison & Lock, 2017). In this case, the focus is on launching a new toy that aims at capturing the attention of children between 5 and nine years. As can be seen in the work breakdown structure (WBS), this particular project will focus on six key areas as part of the project management process. Each of these areas plays a critical role towards ensuring that the launch of the new product in the market is thriving. Additionally, each of the areas also works towards creating what would be considered as a proactive approach from which to promote product differentiation as one of the critical strategies to defining efficiency in the delivery of the new product.

However, it is essential to consider the fact that this project will only focus on five key areas, which extend towards advancing the expected levels of acceptance for the product among consumers in the market. Firstly, the project will focus on market research. Market research refers to a process in which a company embarks on a process of trying to understand the dynamics in the market including defining the needs and expectations among consumers (Ruiz & Holmlund, 2017). In this case, market research will be critical in trying to get a clear understanding of the type of products that the target market, which is young children, would appreciate. The focus is ensuring that the children have a clear understanding of the fact that indeed I am working to deliver based on their respective needs.

The second key area that the project will consider is product design. In product design, I seek to promote product differentiation as one of the critical expectations in capturing the attention of the target market. To help in creating a unique design, I will embark on a process of research evaluation through which I will be able to identify multiple designs that I can use in the development of the new product. The outcome of this is that the target market will be in a better position towards appreciating this particular product in the market. The third area is actual product development. After identification of product design, the next process will involve actualization of the design. That would involve having to find the necessary materials to help in the development of the new product.

The fourth area of consideration is product planning, which is a process that focuses wholly on the testing of the product to ensure that it meets set market standards. Product testing is essential in the launch of the new product considering that it will help in examining some of the key aspects that would differentiate this product from others in the market. The outcome is that this would act as a determinant of success in meeting set out market expectations. The last area of consideration is marketing. Marketing is a process through which companies tend to embark on advertisement of their products among consumers with the sole focus being towards increasing demand for the same (Junge, Severgnini, & Sørensen, 2016). In this case, the company will market the products as one of the critical elements associated with the launch of the new product while ensuring that indeed it can meet market standards.
