Based on the three options given, the main option that applies in my research is seeking to learn more about the three types of dependencies as they relate to project time management. Looking at the book chapter ‘Resource Allocation with Dependencies in Business Process Management Systems,’ from the book International Conference on Business Process Management , it was clear that the three types of dependencies are seen as being key to determining project success. The chapter seeks to provide more information on how the three types of dependencies in project management relate to the time limitations are a majority of the projects are experiencing. It was clear from the analysis of the information in the chapter that project time management is seen as one of the most essential aspects to consider in overall project management, as it creates an avenue through which to analyze and develop a timeline that would define completion of a given project.
The resource, in this case, provided a valid discussion touching on project time management as it relates to the three types od dependencies. I was able to learn the different types of dependencies, which are causal (logical), resource-based, and discretionary (preferential) dependencies. I learned that causal or logical dependencies refer to the dependencies that cannot be avoided, as they are driven by the nature of a given project. Baumgartner & Thiem (2015) argue that the consideration of the causal or logical dependencies allows for the possibility of creating an accurate plan or schedule that would seek to determine the different activities that will be undertaken before completion of the project. An example of a causal dependency is when a construction team intends to build the first floor of a building but cannot achieve this outcome if they do not finish creating a firm foundation.

On the other hand, I also learned about resource-based dependencies, which the resource was able to define as a type of dependencies that focus on tasks that can be completed simultaneously in the event that more resources are availed for these tasks. The existence of resource constrains creates a situation where there are no logical dependencies that would be of value towards determining the order in which activities will be undertaken as part of the project (Havur, Cabanillas, Mendling, & Polleres, 2016). An example can be seen in projects that involve painting of different rooms within the same building, which can be achieved if the necessary manpower is made available. Lastly, I learned about preferential or discretionary dependencies that were defined as specific tasks, which can be completed individually without interference, but the project team makes the decision on their implementation. The decisions made by the team on the implementation of the project tasks is determined by convenience or, in some cases, guided by best practices (Sanghera, 2019).
I intend to apply the information that I have gained from the resource in everyday life, both personally and professionally, in ensuring that I seek to understand the dependencies that can relate to a given project as a determinant of its timeline. As I engage in different types of projects, I expect to encounter different types of dependencies that are likely to impact on the overall possibility of completing the projects within set timelines. Using the information I have gained from the resource, it will be much easier to determine the exact type of dependency that I am likely to encounter with the sole intention being towards creating a platform through which to maximize on project expectations. The information I have gathered will be of great value towards ensuring that I am able to understand how they apply in project management with the sole focus being towards using the dependencies when engaging in future projects.
