Psychopathy is a mental disorder where an individual develops antisocial and amoral behaviour that shows lack of ability to establish a meaningful relationship with others. The condition is highly correlated with violence and criminal behaviour. Many researchers claim that there is no known medication that can help cure psychopathy. The researchers claim that it is not possible to instil empathy or prevent murder in cold blood as well as no therapy can be used to change the uncaring mind of psychopathic individuals.

However, researchers in the recent past have studied some empirical and conceptual evidence relating to psychopathy and identified its origin instead of focusing on symptoms. The researchers approached the condition from a developmental perspective in order to help determine the underlying causes as well as come up with interventions to cure. The researchers found out that psychopathy is related to cognitive-affective dysfunction and traumatic experiences an individual may have encountered ( Pomeroy, 2014) . Therefore, the cure for the condition should be one that addresses trauma and cognitive dysfunction in patients. Such interventions would be effective since they help deal with the predisposing factors rather than focus on treating the symptoms of psychopathy.

Therefore, by focusing on the aetiology of the condition, recent research denotes the use of the decompression treatment model for psychopathy. The technique provides that treatment of the condition focuses on various ways used to reinforce and shape the behaviour of an individual ( Pomeroy, 2014) . For instance, therapists can promise a reward for a change in behaviour among psychopathic individuals. Adopting such a technique can be impactful and help manage the condition as well as reduce crime and recidivism among psychopathic patients. Therefore, I believe that adopting the technique might help make a difference in the treatment of psychopathy.
