Public education is an essential yet often overlooked section of healthcare that promotes quality. Public health education forms permanent, healthy practices in the community. By emphasizing on the importance of each individual’s mandate to maintain personal health, good health practices become inculcated through generations. Global healthcare systems are doing better as technology advances, thus are under pressure to get quality for the resources that are pumped into the health care system. Additionally, the high life expectancy in the US and the aging population is accompanied by chronic health problems, which is putting a new demand on health and social services. Public education on a healthy diet and an active lifestyle is the bridge between the expectations and reality.

Although the government has tried to ensure equality in healthcare through the provision of health coverage for all individuals, it is not completely achievable due to differences in availability of healthcare facilities (Evans et al., 2017). The standards are not constant across all facilities, thus preventing or reducing the likelihood of an individual getting ill serves as an equalizer to a certain extent. Educating people on the importance of eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle has reduced the chances of obesity, health-related conditions and raises life expectancy.

Community health has also significantly reduced illness cases and severity (Evans et al., 2017).Nurses form an important link between patients and medical practitioners as they interact most with the patient. While interacting with patients, they also educate them on other issues besides the illness they are being treated for, depending on their culture and readiness. Patients who receive advice on the importance of maintaining a healthy weight have lower chances of being readmitted for a weight-related illness, which has increased health outcomes.

The impact of public health education goes beyond the county and country. For instance if nurses concentrated more on educating all people on the importance of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, the positive effectives will go beyond Queen’s county and the US. It is likely that once one learns about the benefits, they will educate others. Public health is an approach to improve healthcare that has proven very effective yet cheap, since it is propagated within the community without necessarily re-educating new populations. It also forms a basis for the physician to assess the patient’s background and narrow down causes of illness once they know their public health practices.
