The past 150 years have played a significant role in shaping the modern public health system seen today. In the olden days, not much was known about diseases; thus, not much public action was taken (A History of the Public Health System, n.d). However, as scientific knowledge grew, people began to understand how to curb the spread of diseases and sources of contagion. Better and effective interventions against health threats were discovered and developed. With time, acceptance of disease control as a possibility and responsibility for the public and growth of scientific knowledge resulted in public authorities took on new tasks like vaccination, health edification, and personal healthcare (A History of the Public Health System, n.d). These helped public health develop into what is seen today.

A public health administrator is an individual in charge of overseeing campaigns that improve the populace’s health. A century ago, the public health administrator’s role was to facilitate the development of epidemiology by paying attention to personal care. Public administrators in Massachusetts had to report cases of identified diseases that implied an obligation to treat, such as cancer (A History of the Public Health System, n.d). In contemporary times, public health administrators are tasked with numerous roles, such as coordinating treatment programs and overseeing efficient healthcare operations (Ohio University, 2020). Today, administrators work to organize health services like the clean water initiatives that improve community health.
