Public leaders play a crucial role in maintaining the diversity and sustainability of a country. Ethics describes the various codes of conduct exercised by the leaders in public spaces. While addressing the public, leaders must exercise great care in the choice of words, message, and the moves they make. However, for unethical leaders, speeches are platforms to earn fame and popularity, at the expense of a specific group. Any unethical speech has detrimental consequences to the peaceful coexistence of people in a society.

While campaigning for a position local office position, an aspirant observed the composition of people in my neighbourhood and used sentiments purporting to support one group. In this neighbourhood, Latinos are the largest population, and the minorities are the White. The politician of Latino origin urged supporters to elect him into the local office so that he could improve the welfare of the majority group and ensure that this majority group is recognized in the state. While making these remarks, his supporters took these sentiments as a discriminatory towards the minority. Ever since there has been considerable disagreement between the races in the neighbourhood.

First, the leader under-estimated the weight of his sentiments. He thought that these were mare words to gain the liking of the majority population. In essence, the unethical behaviour has led to division among the once diversified and peaceful neighbourhood. His intended outcome was winning against his competitors, but in the end, the politician led to the development of hatred among a community that once lived in harmony. If I were, the leader, I would use better words to express my need for political space. Again, before making my speech, would weigh the risks that it carries and estimate the possible outcomes of making my sentiments.
