Coronavirus, is an animal virus that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Thence, the transmission can happen from person to person through touch or air. Other contact forms such as touching devices that have been touched by infected persons, exchanging fluids with infected persons and being in contact with the droplets of cough with an infected person, and then using your infected hands to touch your mouth, nose or eyes. There are three types of coronavirus. They include the COVID-19, the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, also called MERS and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, also called SARS (Ziebuhr, 2016).
The signs of having the virus include fever, malaise, and shortness of breath, respiratory distresses and dry cough. These symptoms may range from severe to acute, depending on the person and level of infection (The editorial, 2020).

The center for disease control suggests that those who have the disease should first avoid contact with other persons by self-quarantining to avoid spreading the virus. Self-quarantining include avoiding public areas, not using public transport, staying away from other deliberately, avoiding contact with animals, informing others of the situation, wearing face masks to contain the coughs and adopting sanitary habits like washing the hands frequently. Also, the infected individual should seek medical attention as soon as they notice any of the symptoms mentioned above. Also, they should monitor their symptoms and stay at home while following the advice of the health providers (CDC, 2020).
The united stated has responded to the coronavirus situation in the efforts to protect its citizens by establishing strong safety measures at the borders and regulating the flow of individuals inside the country through thorough border surveillance. Secondly, the US has started an intense epidemiological investigation to understand the virus and possibly, develop a vaccine. Also, the test for the virus have been made widely available by the CDC and other health institutions. Furthermore, the conversation about the virus has been left to the experts to avoid politicization of the virus. The CDC and the FDA, alongside other health monitoring bodies also offer frequent updates on the preparedness of America and the spread of the pandemic (CDC, 2020).
The US president, Donald Trump has put the Vice President Mike Pence in charge of the coronavirus response team. Pence will work with the Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC), the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to inform the public about the facts and prevalence of the disease in the US.
The CDC’s functions are to provide the public with updated factual information about the disease, any breakthroughs in the containment and treatment and to advice the public on how to handle themselves (those infected and those not infected yet) in relations to the disease.
The national policies for the disease are documented by the CDC and the NIH on the action plan as laid out by the government. According to the action plan, the government has employed resources to access the potential health impact of the disease using scientific approaches to generate facts for decision making. Also, efforts are being made to reduce and contain the spread by encouraging testing and reporting. All agencies tasked with tackling the virus are well resourced. The policy also encourages only factual presentation of information to maintain the public trust between the people and the institutions trusted with handling the disease (CDC, 2020).
Lastly, the governor of New York has declared a state of emergency for the disease because of the rising number of coronavirus cases in the city. There are about 90 cases confirmed, jumping from just above 40 overnight. The state of emergency means that the government can now enforce extreme measures that would inconvenience people in its efforts to contain the disease. It also means that coronavirus situation is now recognized officially as a disaster in New York (McKinley and Sandoval, 2020).
