The contemporary world is known to have many forms of prejudices. Among the most common ones are racial and gender bias. It is essential that all the institutions try to avoid any situations that may seem to enhance any of the vices and instead, ensure that no one feels discriminated against due to the condition they are in. It is especially crucial to observe the rule in public institutions such as schools and universities. In addition to painting a proper public image, diversity is further improved by employing different people which may, in turn, increase the general work output. This paper is a recommendation of what my University- where I am the Human Resource Manager, should consider when hiring staff to work for them. In addition to that, the paper assesses the current requirements that the university has and proposes some other qualifications that should be checked before hiring staff for its business.

The university has set aside several requirements that need to be looked into before one can be hired to work for the business. Even though most of them are aimed at employing top-notch individuals, there are several that may be contributing to the bad image that the company has gained due to employing many people of one color. First and foremost, the policy that the person must be good at teamwork may promote the current state at the business has. In a new place of work, it is likely that one may choose a person of his or her color since they have something in common. When one is new in a place, they try to fit in by observing what they share with those they work with. Among the considerations that the people make, the race that one belongs to is of significant impact. The policy that the university has may, therefore, promote the bias since the people who are hired should be good at interacting with the others. The hiring officers may, therefore, find it easy to choose people who bear one skin color as seen in the finding.

Moreover, the policy that people must be able to perform specific tasks with little or no training has some adverse effects. It may result in the company hiring some of the members who are not fully competent. The policy offers a loophole which allows some of the skills that the workers have to be overlooked on the basis that the company needs people who can carry out specific tasks without training. With the gap above, the people in charge of hiring may overlook some potential workers on another basis such as race and employ those who are close to them instead which further has an adverse effect. The policy should be modified such that the business needs people who can quickly adapt to the conditions in the workplace and the responsibilities that are related to their work. In such a policy, the weakness that some of the workers may not be qualified is ruled out.

As a means to cope with the finding that the enterprise is facing the employment of people of color, the director should set a particular limit of black or white people that are supposed to be employed. The plan should set out that the numbers should be equal. As of the current situation, the company policy should insist that the people of color be chosen in larger numbers to cope with the imbalance facing the company. After the ratios are almost equal, then the policy should be altered such that the number f white and black people should be equal. As it appears in the past, the company has had a more significant inclination to employing white people instead of giving all races an equal chance. The policy should, therefore, prioritize other races more than white people as a measure to balance the working conditions.

It's essential that all working places have an equal opportunity for all the people despite gender tribal and racial differences. The primary consideration that should be taken when hiring people is their qualification and their adaptability to the transitions in the working conditions. People who adapt better to specific conditions should be given a higher priority since they can handle more cases. In addition to that, any business should avoid any policies that enhance the chances of hiring unqualified staff. With policies that are well formulated, any business is bound to thrive.
