The US has achieved significant success in various elements of the criminal justice system. However, one area that remains unaddressed is the racial profiling of people of color. African Americans, both civilian and those in law enforcement, have reported racial abuse cases by white police officers ( Harris, 2020) . The problems persist despite the replacement of discriminative policies with more inclusive ones and several activist organizations that fight racial profiling. The trail of racial profiling dates back to various states' independence in the US ( McNamarah, 2018) . To this moment, America’s criminal justice and law enforcement systems have not found a permanent solution to this problem.
The recent killing of George Floyd by police officers, an act of racial profiling that birthed the fiery ‘black lives matter’ movement, is not an isolated case ( Michaelson, 2020) . Recently, a black female federal officer was pulled over by white police in Alabama. The Alabama police intimidated her for several minutes for no reason other than her skin color ( Rodigan, 2020) . In another incident, white officers from the Ramapo Police Department arrested black officers at gunpoint despite introducing themselves ( CNN. 2015) . Another ridiculous case involved a black teen riding in a car with his white grandmother when the police arrested and handcuffed the teen for robbery ( CBS Evening News. 2018) .

Research conducted by Pew Research Center established that at least 84% of blacks feel that the police maltreats them against 63% of whites who feel the same. The criminal justice system also treats blacks and whites differently, with 87% blacks stating that the justice system is unfair ( Desilver et al., 2020) . The probability of police officers stopping a black driver is five times higher than a white driver experiencing the same. Although blacks account for only 13.4% of the US population, they target over 24% of all police searches ( Levin, 2019) . Also, 65% of blacks reported that their white neighbors got suspicious treatment as some white falsely accuse blacks of various types of criminal activities. Thus, blacks across the country give the police lower ratings than whites, and the former feel unsafe in white police presence. Thus, the country has an uphill task in bringing harmony between the police and African Americans.
