Notably, of the three identified social problems, racism issue interests me most. Racism describes the discrimination, prejudice or antagonism by an institution, community or individual against a person based on their affiliation to ethnic or racial group typically one which is often marginalized or a minority ( Tourse et al., 2018) . The social issue interests me most because in the United States, the issue has become rampant and therefore needs urgent intervention. In is unfortunate that the current president Donald Trump has made race relations worse leading to an increase in racial remarks and discrimination of ethnic minorities. I am interested by the issue because it has continued to have an adverse impact on Blacks in the American society. In my view, the country has not made enough progress to address racism particularly among African Americans. Since the election of the incumbent president, it has become common for people to express racist views. The issue also interests me because of the recent killings which seem to have been racially instigated. Most recently, a black man was shot dead in Philadelphia prior to the Election Day. Additional spate of racial killings include the murder of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd. Police brutality towards racial minorities is also on the rise.
According to US statistia, the rate of fatal shootings by the police among people of color is higher than other ethnicities. The current rate stands at 30 fatal killings per million of the African American population. Stanford University carried a research after the killing of George Floyd and found that black drivers are more likely to be stopped than whites during the day when they are identifiable by their color. The study indicated that police stops and searches are marred by persistent racial bias. Instances of racism cuts across various other spheres such as in employment, incarceration, education, wealth, home ownership and in healthcare. Blacks for example are underrepresented in college attainment rates relative to other races such as whites. The issue further interests me because racism is systemic implying that it is ingrained in almost every facet of the American society such as banks, government agencies, companies, law enforcement and schools ( Tourse et al., 2018) . The national wide protests across America indicate that racism still persists in the modern American life. Policy interventions are long overdue to mitigate the racial instigated disparities in American today.

Society Response to addressing the problem
To address the social problem, the society in the modern world has resorted to having petitions and political engagement. In the United States the society has often engaged in protests, call for action and petitions. For example, the National Football League (NFL) indicated that they would charge fines if players engage in any kind of racism. Reforms are also being introduced for example in the US and in Berlin where was passed barring public authorities such as the police from performing searches or stopping people based on their racial orientation. Petitions have been handed to the government as a way of supporting anti-racism in the community ( Tourse et al., 2018) . The society has also been using social media to advocate for policy changes. Social media pages such as the Black Lives Matter and Show Racism the Red Card have been created on Twitter and Facebook to address racism. Various organizations have also resorted into speaking up against racism in the workplace by for example supporting black colleagues and making their workforce more diverse.
