The Randall Lewis Health Policy Fellowship is an educational opportunity in which I am privileged to have secured. I have a deep interest in working with communities, primarily serving the underserved and disadvantaged communities. This program offers me a chance to do what I like best, by equipping me with the skills required to offer community health solutions that are effective for different communities. This fellowship program is an excellent opportunity for me to develop cultural competence and create a favorable public policy for communities. Underserved communities have many unmet healthcare needs that require the formulation of policies that direct healthcare services and resources to them.
I have substantial experience in community outreach through various volunteering programs. Firstly, I am a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society, a community outreach society that conducts beach clean-ups, serves food in local shelters, and organizes various fundraisers. I also worked as a volunteer in Nairobi, Kenya, where we delivered clothes, books, and food supplies to the underprivileged communities. I also currently volunteer in a hospice where I provide companionship and socialize with the terminally ill patients.

My deep interest in community outreach in healthcare is evident. This program will accord me an opportunity to learn how to develop public policy that serves the disadvantaged communities. I am very grateful to have this learning opportunity. From the fellowship, I hope to develop cultural competency, learn how to identify community health needs, and how to draft and implement public policies that create platforms and opportunities to meet the community needs. I believe that I am an ideal student in this fellowship program because community outreach is my passion, and I have training in healthcare; therefore, my professional experience in healthcare settings is an added advantage.
