Effective communication is vital when the speaker needs to get the message across to the target audience. A speaker should study their audience, their needs, and identify the most suitable way of delivering the message. Factors to be considered include the age of the people in the audience, their interests, gender, occupation, and education level. The speaker will, therefore, be able to come up with a pre-eminent strategy of reaching out successfully to the required audience ( Tinianow , 2017). Regarding two students, a comparison of how they communicate with their audience will be made.

Student's 1 audience comprises of both young people and seasoned veterans of the workplace. The message for both groups revolves around the benefits associated with stretching routinely. He ensures that the two groups retain the information by separately informing them about the usefulness of working out. He does this independently since young people and older people cannot relate to the same things. For young people, he conveys his points constructively by giving the example of athletes (Winter et al. 1429). They are, therefore, able to relate to them very well. He uses a different approach for the old by explaining the long term health advantages of working out. They can resonate with the speaker’s message because, as seasoned veterans, maintaining good health during their retirement years is their objective.

Student's 2 purpose in speaking to his audience is to inform them of proper management skills and benefits. His audience comprises of high school students and First Time Home Buyers. Money management is a topic relevant to every person who can interact with it without help from an older person. He embraces the approach of talking about the subject from a place of personal experience. He conveys the same message of not spending one’s money on things needed now, yet one can save for the future. Student's 2, however, uses different variables. For high school students, he highlights the items that used to be relevant to him, such as clothes and electronics. For first time home buyers, he uses the idea of budgeting for expenses such as rent and bills. The two audiences can, therefore, individually relate to the personal experiences of the speaker.

Generally, the two students have different topics and audiences and therefore use different approaches. When analyzing his audience,Student's 1 primary concern is the age difference between the two groups that make up his listeners. In comparison, Student's 2 key factor is the interests of his two groups. The difference in their audiences does not stop them from delivering their messages effectively. On that account, it is clear that a study of the audience is paramount before preparing the piece of information to be passed across.
