Many societies are bound to experience a number of problems in relation to societal challenges which are likely to escalate in case nothing is done to caution the situation. Such problems range from war, corruption as well as the increased rate of poverty. At times, despite implementing laws to enhance policy adherence in line with the agenda to ensure the intended goal is realized there lacks a will among most stakeholders to embrace change (Grimminck, 2015). This is also blamed on the lack of inclusiveness while arriving at such provisions or rather only arrived at with the intent of some benefiting from enacted policies. In order to study such challenges, an interview was conducted on two participants.

According to the first participant named mark, he was always fascinated by how America managed to grow its economy and always wanted to get here ever since he was young. Having grown from a humble background his parents only managed to educate him to high school. He lamented having had a poor childhood owing to regular fights at home whenever his dad came back home. His mother was always bitter over his father’s decision to spent all his cash of alcohol and women (Yu, 2013). Despite trying his best to make it in school, the situation only got from bad to worse and was even sent home from schools due to school fees arrears. He, therefore, so his dream vanish in thin air with no hope in sight. He, however, kept contemplating of his life will be in future but still maintained hope that life was going to become better. Just before he cleared his final year in high school his dad lost his job and was forced to do odd jobs to survive. He still managed to have his way to America illegally but now still finding it hard to make ends meet owing to the high standard of living.

Julia, on the other hand, happened to come from an affluent background. This made it easy for her to have access to all she ever wanted. In her pursuit to find pleasure she found herself engaged with different personalities. To a great extent, many were always concerned with living for the moment because life was short. It didn’t take long before she ended up becoming a drug addict. She was later abandoned by her close family and friends, fell in love with a rich man but still ended up ending their relationship. As of now, she is hopeless and basically trying to get back on her feet (Social problems a world crisis, np).

While gauging the two experiences, one is able to realize how regardless of whether one may be coming from a humble background or even a rich background they are all prone to experience tough times. In spite of such challenges, the all were hopeful and rarely gave up. This was a great sign of things to come. The all seem to have been victims of the individualistic American culture which emphasizes more on self as opposed to embracing an inclusive kind of approach where such problems can easily be identified and addressed with ease. Most people are, therefore, likely to suffer in isolation without hope in site. This is the case with illegal immigrants as well as those suffering from drug addiction as a result of being neglected. The economic situation also plays a key role in the entire process thus the need to empower the marginalized in order to limit the level of discrimination.

The situation is made worse when trying to survive in a non forgiving economy like America whereby without any form of earnings it can become so difficult for not only immigrants but American citizens as well. It is astonishing to see the number of the homeless increase at quite an alarming rate. This even raises an eye brow as to what may have gone wrong in the American society. It also explains why the level of crime has also gone high especially among the black community with some going as far as developing a bad attitude towards the police. It is sad to see how this has continued to penetrate the higher institutions of learning with reported cases of gun violence also being witnessed (Grimminck, 2015). The less fortunate at times do engage in things like drug peddling as well as prostitution to make a living. It could also take time before bringing the much anticipated change owing to structural challenges. This is due to those being victimized fearing to report such cases yet they are always subjected to such a situation on a regular encounter.

In conclusion, despite recognizing the kind of challenges at the societal level, rarely is focus directed of self. The society, on its own can’t be blamed for all the challenges because it simply reflects a collection of different personalities who make up the society. As opposed to directing the focus at the society, a lot can be achieved when approached from an individual point of perspective.
