The article explores one of the topics that are critical in the nursing setting and also a topic that is common not only in the UnitedStates but also in the world. Cancer is common and is one of the killer diseases. However, there is also the stigma that comes with cancer rehabilitation, treatment, and therapies. Such stigma makes the people living with cancer afraid of adhering to the cancer medication, making it difficult to eliminate the disease. This article tries to diagnose this stigma by revealing that people need sensitization to reduce such stigma, and this makes the article and the topic very important for a study.

“ The purpose of this integrative review is to synthesize the current literature regarding the effectiveness of patient education at decreasing anxiety levels in patients receiving chemotherapy for the first time.” This is a literature review research targeting the existing and past research on the topic. It is a review of ten different articles sampled out from six databases. English language, adult population, peer review, and a publication date between the years 2003 to 2013 were the inclusion criteria for the document. The patients receiving radiation therapy, oral chemotherapy, prevention of cancer, and foreign study participants were some of the exclusion criteria ( Garcia, 2014). The article reveals that there is a stigma concerning this matter. The patient is less educated, and this makes them feel the enthusiasm to go for cancer treatment. The results revealed the critical nursing role in education, the benefits of self-management, the benefits of creating proper timing, and the proper environment to enable these people to understand the need for these treatments and eliminate any stigma that comes with them.

As a nurse, I would learn the means of delivering education targeting these patients. Furthermore, I would focus on a good environment and timing to allow me time to talk to these patients and make them understand the facts about chemotherapy as this is the only way to rubbish the unfounded ideology they have concerning chemotherapy. The primary learning point from the article is that when done well, nursing education about chemotherapy can reduce the stigma in patients and allow them the ability to manage their treatment and recovery programs. Nurses, therefore, should be trained on how to deliver education to such patients to enable them to understand chemotherapy and its impact on their cancer management and recovery strategies.
