Introduction
Recruitment and selection play a strategic role in organizations. The success of every organization depends majorly on the skill, expertise, competence, and teamwork brought to the table by its workforce. Recruitment is concerned with increasing the quantity of workforce in an organization, whereas selection is involved with screening the interested applicants to ensure the most competent are offered the job position. This paper is a case study of the recruitment and selection procedures employed by a Silicon Valley Recruiting firm. Complaints on the recruitment and selection criteria have been forwarded to the firm’s president from EEO Commission and the firm’s client companies. This paper will focus its research on identifying the problem, analyzing the recruitment and selection process and identifying the best way to address the complaints.
Review and Analysis of the Recruitment and Selection Criteria
An analysis of the recruitment and selection criteria employed by the Silicon Valley recruiting firm concluded that the problem with the potential candidate characteristics is lack of diversity regarding gender, disability, ethnicity, and educational background. A major proportion of recruiters are white males from Ivy League Colleges in the United States. Currently, the demography of Europe and the United States of America has been changing because of the dynamics of migration. The two continents are more ethnically diverse than ever before (Derous & De Fruyt, 2019). Diversity not only ensures equity in the recruitment and selection process but also introduces a desirable cultural mix in the workforce (Brown et al., 2019).

The company’s recruitment and selection process has advanced in using technological platforms to screen applicants. The resumes of recruiters are screened via data-mining programs and the applicants with required criteria are automatically emailed a quiz assessment. While the use of technology has made it more efficient to screen competent individuals, the system does have flaws. Technological platforms do not ensure the privacy of the applicant’s information, and applicants are not assured of the security of the quiz system in regard to malwares (Derous & De Fruyt, 2019). The data mining programs screen resumes solely on the basis of technological competency. The program ought to be calibrated to screen applicants also on their age, gender, and ethnic background. Women and the disabled ought to be encouraged to apply during the advertisements for the posts. Such a recruitment criterion goes a long way to communicate to the stakeholders about the values that the Silicon Valley recruiting firm and the client companies uphold (Brown et al., 2019).
Conclusion
Recruitment and selection play a strategic role in ensuring the workforce in an organization are the most competent. The success of every organization depends majorly on the skill, expertise, competence, and teamwork brought to the table by its employees. An analysis of the Silicon Valley recruiting firm concluded that the firm lacks diversity in its selection criteria. The recruitment and selection criteria employ the use of technological platforms that screen applicants solely on the basis of their technological competency. The data mining programs should be calibrated to screen applicants also on the basis of age, gender, and ethnic background. Women and the disabled ought to be encouraged to apply during the advertisements for the posts. Diversity in the workforce will not only show equity in opportunity applications but also uphold a good image for the firm and the firm’s clients.
