Major ingredients in white wines include white grapes, light and fruity taste. While on the other hand, red wines primary ingredients are dark red and black grapes (Yoo et al., 2013). One of the major differences between these two wines is that red wine is produced with whole grapes with its skin. It has been established that skins add color and flavor to the red wine. It is worth noting that both white and red wines are essential to an individual’s health. Despite the fact that both are made from grapes, they do not offer same health benefits as provided by fruits. In the process of fermentation, the grapes lose their original nutrition but at the same time gain several health benefits (Weintraub, 2016). Red wines are the most preferred type of wines especially in primary wine-making nations including Italy and France and are better for your heart than white wine.

To complete the assignment, four sources have been selected. The first article is a New York Times Newspaper by Weintraub. This is a non-credible source written by Weintraub, the highly experienced freelance who spend about 20 years in the newsroom and she is also a major contributor to the WBUR's CommonHealth. The second source is by credible professionals including Yoo, Saliba, MacDonald, Prenzler and Ryan. This is a credible article since they conducted a cross-cultural study to understand the benefits of wine implying that the content is scientifically supported. The third article is by Khurana, Venkataraman, Hollingsworth, Piche, and Tai who are all health professional with intensive cardiovascular experience making the source highly credible. The last article is by Mayo Clinic, and it is also a credible source because it was founded on clinical examination. Three of the references are highly credible, and one is a none-credible source, and they all support the hypothesis of the study that red wine is more beneficial to heart functioning.

Red wine has the most health benefits than white wine and further can increasingly contribute to an individual’s health in various ways. Red wines entail the skins of grapes containing potent antioxidants referred resveratrol. It has been established that red wine and a polyphenol substance, resveratrol, contained in it is healthy to the heart. Red wine, taken in moderation, contains an antioxidant that plays a significant role in the prevention of heart disease through increasing the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels which help protect against the damage of arteries. Further, resveratrol has been shown to offer an excellent protection of blood vessels (Mayo Clinic. (2016).

Red wine has numerous heart-healthy benefits compared to other types of alcohol. Polyphenol which is an antioxidant found in red wine helps in protecting blood vessels lining in the heart. Polyphenols are excellent antioxidants with numerous roles such reducing the blood pressure and the cholesterol level. Further, it is essential in enhancing the immune system and prevents cancer.

According to Khurana et al., (2013), resveratrol is one of the primary ingredients contained in red wine and plays a critical role in the prevention of potential damage to the blood vessels, lowers the riskof blood clots and further reduces the low-density lipoprotein which is considered as bad cholesterol. Resveratrol has also been established to be effective especially in exhibiting the enzymes activities that stimulate cancer cell growth.

Research to test the importance of resveratrol was conducted on mice, and the outcome suggested that the antioxidant is effective in protecting against obesity and diabetes which have been established as major risk factors for heart diseases. Another research on pigs found out that resveratrol is effective in improving the functioning of the heart and further enhances the ability of the body to utilize insulin. Research has further established that resveratrol is closely associated with a reduced danger of inflammation and the blood clotting that in most instances can result in heart disease (Yoo et al., 2013).

There is, however, the need for research to establish whether resveratrol can function effectively in human beings as it does in mice and pigs. According to Khurana et al., (2013), resveratrol can reduce an overall positive result of physical activity on an individual’s heart, especially in older men. Further, the effect of resveratrol often lasts for a very short time after a person drinks red wine implying that the effect does not last for a long term.

In conclusion, red wine ccontains resveratrol found on the skin of the grapes that increases its heart-healthy qualities which help prevent blood vessel damage. Despite the numerous health benefits of red wines that help the heart, there is the need to take into consideration the aspect of moderation. This is because; too much drinking of alcohol can outweigh the good. Based on Harvard School of Public Health, moderation for men is two servings per day and for women one serving per day.
