While growing up, I did not know anything about Christianity or Jesus as I was not raised in any religious background. Life had given me everything that I wanted. I had a good job and was living in my own apartment yet deep down, I felt lost and empty, as I did not know what was my calling or where my life was heading to. Therefore, I yearned to know what made me feel this way as well as explain life’s tough moments such as death, sickness, and betrayal. My mother, for the first time, took me to church and that was when I first got to learn something about Christianity and God entered my life. Fast forward my life, I woke up in a hospital from a coma from an apparent seizure I had. The problem had begun as a headache and instead of sleeping it off, something told me to call 911 and not to sleep. I do not understand whether the voice was Jesus as I seek to find out the answer from the New Testament scriptures.

Christ is a very important figure in Christianity through his teachings, atonement, peace, hope. From the Bible, it is understood that he aids those who believe in him to be able to face their trials, change their lives as well as hold on to faith as we journey back to God. He offers people hope when facing challenges and when we find it difficult to put our trust in God. His mortal ministry was full of serving, loving others and teachings, making Him the greatest example of true Christianity. He not only points the way to happiness but also led the way through His ministry. His teachings show us eternal truth as his atonement leads us to love. From reading the Gospel, Jesus affirms the people that his teachings would guide them to eternal life (John 6:63) and it is through his word would people be judged on judgment day.

From reading the story of Christ where after he was anointed by John the Baptist he went to the wilderness and fasting for forty days and nights undergoing the devil’s temptations, I got to learn that everyone goes through trial times and we are often tempted to give up hope to continue. These trials do not last for long as they teach us to persevere and not to give in the hope better days to come.

According to the scriptures, I could relate that the voice I heard could have been that from the Holy Spirit. In the book of John 16:13, Jesus speaks about a spirit that would come to be the spirit of truth and to guide us in all certainty, speak what he hears, and tell us what is yet to come. Jesus goes further and explains that the Holy Spirit is part of The Lord where God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit forms the Holy Trinity. A few days later after his ascension, the Holy Spirit visits the disciples and manifests to them in form of a flame which enabled them to speak in tongues, perform miracles and guide them in spreading the gospel of Christ, just as He had promised.

God became the center of our lives when we understood that He offers peace and hope, teaches vital truths, makes repentance and resurrection possible and sets the perfect example, then are we able to have the courage to continue with Christian faith. Despite being new in religion and facing daily challenges in living the perfect life, there is strength and purpose in life. As I get to learn more about the gospels, I get to understand more who Jesus was and his purpose to all mankind.
