Mary's song, popularly known as the Magnificat reflects the expectations the Jewish people had on the prophesied Messiah. No one could reveal this better than Mary, the mother of the Messiah. The paper reflects on Mary's song the Magnificat and how the song acts as a bridge between the Old and the New Testament. Ways in which the paper reflects on my personal experiences are also looked at in the journal.
Both Mary and Zacharias anticipated Jesus to be a leader who would reinstate Israel to its former glory and reverse the injustices that had been committed against Israelites. The song also ties perfectly with rhymes and predictions from the Hebrew verses. Thisreveals a relation between the savior they hoped to receive and the Messiah who was to be sent to them by God. Many people expected Jesus to be an earthly king, the one who would stay in the palace and rule over the people.

In the song, Mary reveals that the Messiah was coming to right wrongs and delivers Israelites from sufferings and misery. The song has ten verses long and comprises fifteen distinct citations from the Hebrew scripture. In the song, Mary employs extensive parallelism borrowed from Hebrew poetry (Church, 2017) . It is worth noting that before the coming of the Messiah, Israelites had been subjected to a lot of suffering and many of them were on the verge of giving up. The song was, therefore, a thanksgiving to God for sending the long-awaited Messiah. Furthermore, Mary attempts to explain why her entire being is offering praise to God. Besides thanking God for the good that He has done to her, she thanks God for the good that Israelites and the entire world are likely to receive through her son Jesus.
The Magnificat as Bridge between the Old and the New Testament
Mary’s song the Magnificat links the old and the New Testament in numerous ways. It not only concludes the Old Testament but also starts the New Testament. It supports the New Testament by highlighting God’s consistency throughout the Old and the New Testament. Additionally, the Magnificat servers as a show of joy, thanksgiving, and fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies.
The fact that Mary employs a language similar to that of Hannah in the Old Testament links the Old and the New Testament. The scripture portrays her as a representative of the people of Israel. The Israelites belonged to the church that was started by her son Jesus who she thanks God for in the song. Mary exhibits a kind of faith that resembles that of the people in the Old Testament. Her faith mirrors the kind of faith that Abraham had in God.
Just like Abraham who is referred to as the father of faith, she believed that God had good plans for the people of Israel. He would not let them suffer as they had for years. She believed that God was going to fulfill His promise to the Israelites. The Magnificat is also a reminder of what God has done in the Old Testament. He delivered Israelites from bondage in Egypt and provided them with food when they were starving.
How Song Reflects my Personal Experience
The song mirrors my life in many ways, from God enabling me to be in perfect health, be at peace with myself and those around me to succeed academically. Everyday many people succumb to chronic illnesses such as cancer andmuch more perish in accidents. The fact that God has granted mea favor and taken care of me makes me incrediblygrateful. Though life is full of challenges, He gas lifted me up everytime I was down. God has provided me with the ability to choose between what is wrong and right. I still pray that He helps me see the areas in my life that require transformation.
Conclusion
Although many books in the Bible attempt to bridge the Old and the New Testament, Mary's song manages to do so seamlessly. The song reflects on how God upheld His promises to those in the Old Testament like Abraham and guaranteed Christians that God fulfills His promises.
