Mecca city in the western Saudi Arabia is famous among the Islamic religion globally. Mecca city is located in the Sirat Mountains near the red sea coast in Saudi Arabia. The city is believed to be the birth place of Muhammad who is the founder of the Muslim religion. Mecca city is also regarded as a holy city by Muslims in the whole world. As such, every Muslim in the entire world is expected to visit Mecca at least once in his or her life time. Mecca city is used by Muslims globally to hold the Hajj pilgrimage and which is conducted annually and acts to cleanse the Muslim’s sins, thus, bringing then closer to God. Generally, Hajj pilgrimage is an opportunity for Muslims to repent their sins and re-establish their good relations with God. The Hajj pilgrimage is a six-day ritual and is accompanied by several events which add up to the real meaning and purpose of the Hajj pilgrimage.
The first event towards a successful Hajj pilgrimage is entering Ihram by crossing the outer boundaries of the Mecca city. On the first day, specific clothing for men and women are worn and all participants are restricted from giving in to anger or engaging into sexual activities. The second day is spent at Arafat fasting and praying. Arafat is believed by the Muslims fraternity to be the first scene where the Quran was revealed to Muhammad. It is also during the evening of the second day that Muslims collect pebbles to be used during the third day. During the third day, Muslims throw stones at the pillars as a sign of stoning the devil. After throwing the stones, Muslims are obliged to slaughter a sheep or a goat to sacrifice to their God as Abraham did.

During the fourth and the fifth day, Muslims continue throwing stones at the pillars symbolising stoning of Satan. After they are through with stoning Satan, they go back to Mecca for farewell prayer before they depart to go back to their home countries. The following diagram is a picture of Mecca city where Hajj pilgrimage takes places each year.
Mecca city is attractive as it has a well decorated mosque and pillars which Muslims throw stones at as a signing of stoning Satan. The mosque and the pillars attract so many people annually, most them going there to see the mosque and the pillars. The most notable actions during the Hajj pilgrimage are the Hijra, which entails the Muslims moving from Mecca to Medina. The other notable action that is performed by the Muslims during the Hajj pilgrimage is the throwing of stones at the pillars.
The throwing of stones has amazed many people globally and the Muslims equate it to stoning Satan who is the perpetuator of all evil in the world. There are several identifiable features in Mecca city, which have a long history and serve as historic sites to researchers. One of the identifiable features in Mecca city is the mosque which is built in a unique and very attractive manner than any other mosque in the whole world. The other identifiable feature is the tomb that Muhammad was buried in and where Muslims pay their last visits and tributes before they leave Mecca each year. However, there are aspects that did not come out clearly during my visit to Mecca. One was the throwing stones at the pillars, which symbolised stoning Satan and the other is the great number of people who died during the stoning but no action was taken. The turn of Muslims in Mecca and the seriousness of their actions symbolises the respect they accord to their Muslim religion. Given another opportunity to visit Mecca in the future, then my focus would be to know the real idea and meaning behind throwing the stones at the pillars.
