SUBJECT: Requesting Save The children to offer to fund the Syrian refugees in Idlib province
The humanitarian crisis in Syria reached horrifying heights in mid-February in Idlib Province. There has been a 9-year long conflict in Syria that was brought about by demonstrations, commonly known as Arab spring protests (BBC, 2019). The protests, which were a peaceful uprising against the then president escalated to a full-scale civil war that has left devastated cities, hundreds of thousands dead and drawn in cities. Recently, the fighting in the region has escalated since December, where Russian and Syrian troops have attacked the opposition forces (ABC News, 2020). With artillery causing shelling and the increased airstrikes in the region, the region is becoming inhospitable. The province is home to the last opposition stronghold with around 3 million inhabitants of half of whom are refugees (Kritz, 2020). With the changing weather conditions, temperatures fall below freezing point and, in mid-February, heavy snow fell in the region during the night.
The region has special health challenges that its inhabitants face. A majority of people have been misplaced within the region. Women and children make up a big percentage of those sleeping outside since they do not have tents due to overcrowding in the refugee camps (Kritz, 2020). This has then led to the death of babies and small children who are exposed to cold. Many of the children in the province have respiratory illnesses due to the prevailing cold weather and the overcrowding in the province that makes it impossible for their families to find space in indoor structures to sleep. Parents are then forced to light fires and burn plastics to keep their children warm (ABC News, 2020). Others have a heater that aims to keep them warm during the cold, but some are faulty as a family of four died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
The inhabitants of Idlib province have numerous requirements. They need more indoor structures to house the growing number of refugees in the region (Kritz, 2020). Having such structures will ensure everyone who needs to be housed gets proper housing that will shelter them from the extreme weather. These individuals also need tents and blankets that will help them weather the cold. Although these are provided for them in the cities, few get access to them as they flee from the fighting and end up changing directions thus do not get the necessary equipment to help them brave the weather (Kritz, 2020). There exist response gaps within the organizations present that aim to reduce the refugees' burden. First-aid workers are not able to know where to go to offer their help (ABC News, 2020). This is because the fighting causes refugees to be on the constant move while taking different routes. Aid workers have a hard time accessing those in need of help.
Secondly, the aid workers are getting overwhelmed by the number of people fleeing to the region. The level of funding they have cannot cope with the numbers of refugees who sometimes reach 50, 000 people a day (Kritz, 2020). The number of refugees has increased significantly from the 6.2 million estimates, of which 2.5 million are children (Kritz, 2020). Aid workers are also sometimes forced to desert their stations and leave behind the reequipment when the fighting increases. They too get displaced and cannot go back to get their equipment since their stations have either become part of the war front or are too near to the front lines.
World Vision has been invested in the Syrian crises since the war began. World vision is an international humanitarian organization whose address is 1 Roundwood Avenue Stockley Park Uxbridge, Middlesex UB11 1FG, UK. The organization has provided basic needs to refugees and displaced people during the civil war (World Vision, 2020). As such, the organization has already established relations with the communities and is well aware of the situation. Funding World Vision will ensure that all the children in the Syrian refugee camps are well provided for. Your organization seems the best fit to aid the situation of refugees in Idlib, Syria since both your firm and World Vision aims to help specifically children in need (Save The children, 2020); World Vision, 2020). As such, your organization will have a vested interest in the humanitarian crises as it is children who in this case, are suffering more.
