One must have in mind the consequences and benefits of selecting a particular research design, terminologies to be used in the research and the approach for selecting a specific design before conducting a study (Cantrell, 2011). In most medical researches, one must also come up with a theoretical framework or model that will lay down don foundation for the entire study.
Tagney and Haines (2009) conducted a study to determine the how gaps in nursing knowledge can be addressed using evidence-based practices. The model employed by the researcher was based on the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework which helps in identifying the learning and development, skills and knowledge that employees require to handle well assigned tasks (Tagney & Haines, 2009). The researchers used a systemic review methodology to highlight the various constituents of the model and specifics of the articulation of the study outcomes and interventions with the model. According to the model, it identifies the need for using evidence-based practices for nurses. However, it does not fully outline how the nurses are expected to implement the practices. The model indicates that there is a need for improving the quality of care using evidence and critical thinking which should be sported by using new technology. The researcher used the model to highlight the gaps for it is only a means through which an individual’s ability to perform within a particular role is measured.

Furthermore, research conducted by Finn (2011) indicates that there is a need for critical thinking abilities when it comes to making a clinical decision in evidence-based practices. It is the similar skills that miss in the KSF model and once implemented; they can help in bridging the knowledge gap existing in the nursing profession. The major issue I would like to explore in my practice area is the cybersecurity concerns impact on medical technology. The current medical practice has adopted the use of various technologies such as the EHRs, and it is only right to determine whether they are vulnerable to cyber threats. The sole aim of basing research on an established model or theory is that it will provide a comprehensible , amalgamated and methodical method of visualizing linked processes or events pertinent to a discipline.
