Accidents are among the common admissions that are presented to medical facilities in the US. In the emergency department, the aged form part of the common patients who visit the institutions (Ortman, Velkoff and Hogan, 2014). Owing to the age factor, this is a generation that has been growing within the United States in the recent years. In 2012, the percentage of persons aged above 65 years stood at 14% of the population and projected to rise in the coming years. Rise in the numbers within this age bracket is raising concerns owing to the high cost of healthcare despite having superseded their productive years. Emergency accident cases are more prevalent in this group compared to other forms of ailments.

Improving Healthcare for the Aged Accident Victims within Us Population

The rising numbers of the aged accident victims within the US population are a great concern by the modern trends. Most of the accidents within the older generation are from driving alongside falls (Albert, Rui and McCaig, 2017). To cater for this generation, home based care is the best solution. This is a system tailored to ensure the victim receive medical care within their homes hence a reduction in the need to drive to health facilities. This can be enhanced by introduction of homes for the elderly where there are special installations, constructions and services tailored for the aged. Majority of such facilities catering for the aged benefit from health services that are delivered to the homes and in such way reduce the need to visit the common health institutions (Ortman, Velkoff and Hogan, 2014)

Concentration reduces as age progresses (Albert, Rui and McCaig, 2017). While driving on the roads, there are high chances of accidents that result from lost concentration. To reduce the rate of these accidents, alternative means of transport need to be provided for the aged. With a high number of the aged women than men visiting the emergency departments, it is important to limit the driving age for the aged based on sex evaluation.
