Summary

Existing research supports the use of medical applications in practice because of the many benefits associated with the use of the applications both on healthcare providers and patients. According to Acharya (2018), medical applications offer a wide variety of benefits for health care providers. The most significant one is enhanced accessibility of point of care tools. It has been identified that this supports improved decision making and better patient outcomes. However, despite the fact that the applications beyond any reasonable doubt provide many benefits to patients and healthcare providers, their current use is without a proper understanding of any related risks (Mosa, 2012). Acharya (2018) suggests that there is need for extensive assessment and validation of the applications to ensure that they are up to standards in order to ensure patient safety and quality care. Mosa (2012) suggests that by implementing validation measures, the major determining factor of an application’s value will be its capability to give information that is meaningful, correct, and timely and offer guidance to the users so as to cause improved patient outcomes.
