Rifleman Dodd is one of the renown war narratives by C.S Forester revolving around military and novel themes. The story revolves around an English rifleman from the army who was unluckily estranged from his colleagues. The book provides the reader with a trip mission as he tries to return to his unit.

The British rifleman shows powerful tactical and leadership skills in his attempts to return to his unit. Even though Dodd was separated from his unit by the French, he understood that he had a duty to develop a plan for survival while accomplishing his mission as a rifleman. Using his advanced English rifle, behind the enemy line he retaliates to the French attacks despite knowing that his chances of survival are minimal ( Forester, 2007).  Despite being an English-speaking individual, he led the Portuguese rebels. He used body signs and language to instruct his comrades regardless of the communication barrier. Towards the end of the Dodd is reunited with his comrades. The narrative goes further and presents Dodd's later life as an elderly man beside the fire and reflecting his days as a soldier ( Forester, 2007).  He is presented as an irritable man who has turned into a drunkard, however, for the reader, his role as tactical rifleman who played a significant role in turning the tide of war remains real.

The story also presents the importance of remaining faithful to commitments irrespective of likely consequences. The Rifleman Dodd is an outstanding story of a soldier’s willingness to protect his nation and perform his duties with dignity regardless of the situation. Fighting the French enemies after being separated from his comrades was a show of brevity, tenacity and stolid trait ( Forester, 2007).  Despite this challenge, he does not retreat nor surrenders but goes on to fight and make use of training techniques as a soldier to deliver to his nation.

In conclusion, seeing an individual who experiences challenges that could lead to death and still fights on is quite fascinating and interesting. Dodd's acts show the importance of strength, mental dexterity and determination in wining fights. The story affirms the fact that strategy and resilience are powerful tools in achieving our endeavors.
