The government has reduced carbon emission by increasing its reliance on renewable sources of energy such as the wind and sun. Power plants are the key sources of carbon emission in the country and account for more than a third of the country’s greenhouse emissions. The government has put limits on lead, arsenic, and mercury. Also, they have set up proposed standards for the new power plants to ensure they minimize greenhouse emissions. Also, in 2014, the Environmental protection Agency came up with the Clean Power Plan that proposed standards regarding pollution for the power plants. Reduced carbon emission will safeguard the health of future generations and allow the country to cut carbon emission by about a third by 2030 (Portney, 2016). Furthermore, the EPA plans will have health benefits of about $ 93 billion annually by 2030. Also, the smog and soot will reduce by more than 25 percent (Portney, 2016). The major players in environmental protection in the country are the government, private sector and the public whose lives and health depend on a clean environment.
