The American government has a vital role in tackling global warming. Since 2013, the government, through the Climate Action Plan has taken three significant steps to control the issue. The steps include reducing global warming is cutting carbon emission, preparing the country for the effects of global and climatic change, and leading the global efforts in controlling climate change. Since 2005, the country has taken various steps that would assist the country in reducing the use fossil fuels and emission of greenhouse gasses (Segerson & Miceli, 2008). The paper will seek to explain the government’s role in environmental protection, the key players in protecting the environment and the impact of the steps taken by the government.

One of the main steps the government has taken to reduce global warming is by reducing carbon emission from its power plants. Since 2005, the carbon emission in the country has reduced tremendously in comparison to other industrialized nations (Portney, 2016). The government has reduced carbon emission by increasing its reliance on renewable sources of energy such as the wind and sun. Power plants are the key sources of carbon emission in the country and account for more than a third of the country’s greenhouse emissions. The government has put limits on lead, arsenic, and mercury. Also, they have set up proposed standards for the new power plants to ensure they minimize greenhouse emissions. Also, in 2014, the Environmental protection Agency came up with the Clean Power Plan that proposed standards regarding pollution for the power plants. Reduced carbon emission will safeguard the health of future generations and allow the country to cut carbon emission by about a third by 2030 (Portney, 2016). Furthermore, the EPA plans will have health benefits of about $ 93 billion annually by 2030. Also, the smog and soot will reduce by more than 25 percent (Portney, 2016). The major players in environmental protection in the country are the government, private sector and the public whose lives and health depend on a clean environment.

The environmental protection plans will have a positive impact globally. It will reduce health costs because of the reduction in air pollution. Cases of respiratory diseases such as asthma will reduce. Reduced carbon emission will safeguard the health of future generations. Furthermore, the plans will allow the country to cut its carbon emission by accessing remote wind and solar energy sources, create jobs, reduce power outages, and save consumers’ spending on power. Since 2009, investment in clean energy has created over 100000 jobs (Porter, 2015). Investing in clean energy sources will reduce global warming because the country is one of the leading emitters of greenhouse gasses. Since the country took a global role in environmental protection, it has inspired other nations to safeguard the environment. The positive impact of different countries participating in environmental protection will be of great benefit to the current and future generations.
