Disaster management requires various partnerships to ensure that proper and efficient response and mitigation strategies are put in place. This minimizes the effects of any disaster by saving as many lives and properties as possible. In Enfield town, the Department of Disaster Management needs to partner with governmental, public, and private bodies to ensure that appropriate mechanisms are developed to respond and mitigate the effects of severe winter storms and hurricanes which are common in the area. First, the Enfield Department of Disaster Management needs to cooperate with the National Response Framework in seeking funds and recruiting personnel for response and mitigation processes. This partnership is in a better position to agitate for sufficient resources from the federal government. Secondly, the department needs to cooperate with local public institutions like the Enfield Fire Department for additional personnel and resources should the ones available fail to match the disaster magnitude. The later can help by providing trucks and fire-fighters to evacuate residents of Enfield town. Lastly, the Department of Disaster Management can partner with the private sectors like schools to act as evacuation centres and also for additional personnel. This ensures that many lives and properties are evacuated during the occurrence of major disasters. However, these partnerships may face various challenges that might hinder response and evacuation exercises. First, there might be a long procedure that must be followed before this partnership could be implemented (Kovács & Spens, 2009). This has the potential of delaying the response and evacuation process. Another challenge might be communication breakdown during cooperation in disaster management. To overcome the two problems, the Enfield Department of Disaster Management needs to reduce the number of procedures involved in seeking partnership from other bodies during emergencies. Another solution to these challenges is involving various government, public and private departments in planning strategies on disaster management.
