Different societies face common challenges that the private sector can play a vital role in addressing. Counter-terrorism security is such one problem that the private sectors can play a role if sustainable development is to be achieved (Herman & O'Sullivan, 1989). Furthermore, many groups of terrorism often operate outside the state authorities’ jurisdiction making it clear that the government cannot handle the challenge alone. In the United States, for instance, there is a big percentage of infrastructure preserved by the private sector. Going with the data found from survey responses by the security professionals from private and public sectors, the structural model of equation determined that several factors influence the size of security spending, the most important one being the cost-benefit analysis undertaken by the companies (Karnani, 2007).

Many extremists use tools from the private sector to communicate and radicalize their members. This is why it is important for the private sectors to come in and help in counter-terrorism security strongly. Social media, for instance, is an avenue through which the terror groups find homage and use it to spread their extremist ideologies across the globe (Rajabifard et al., 2006). These terror groups also plan and communicate their plans through social media. The private sectors in this field should in collaboration with the government track and tame the terror groups using social media. Private sectors in this field have shown commitment in trying to deal with this problem by training the general public on how to efficiently use the social media to report any case of terror that they come in contact with. This has greatly helped to reduce the risk involved in terror planning and threats.

Different researchers observe that private sector security efforts should focus on addressing the day to day business threats such as theft and vandalism as this issue fits within the company’s operational framework and that counter-terrorism protection may be improved as a result (Seidenstat, 2004). The private sector is also able to detect the products, which finance the terrorist groups and as a result put strict measures when it comes to selling these products. Furthermore, banks used by the terror groups can be easily detected when there is a collaboration between the government and the private sectors and this would help in a significant way in dealing with threats brought about by the terror groups.
