INT. CARREY’S HOUSE – 3.00 PM
Carrey removes the pastry dish from the oven and drops it on the kitchen counter as she squeals due to the steam from the oven. As she tries to splash some water on her hands, she hears her phone ringing and rushes to pick it up .
Carrey : ( On the phone ) Hey Chailer, what a surprise?
Chailer : ( On the line ) Hi Carrey, long time. How are you?
Carrey : I’m well, thank you. How have you been? It’s long since we last spent some quality time together.

Chailer : I’m doing fine. I was thinking of dropping by your place so we could catch up if you wouldn’t mind.
Carrey : Of cause, I would love to spend the afternoon with you. I’m all alone at home.
Chailer : Okay, see you in a few.
Carrey : ( Smiling to herself ) Waiting.
Thirty minutes later, the doorbell rings. Carrey hurries to open the and ushers in an enthusiastic Chailer into the house. They exchange a few pleasantries and decide to sit at the patio to get some fresh breeze from the swimming pool as they talk, over a glass of fresh juice.
INT. CARREY’S PATIO – 3.45 PM
Carrey perks up with a lightened facial expression as she talks to Chailer.
Carrey : So, how have you been? You look great!
Chailer : ( In a brightened mood ). I’ve been fine. You don’t look bad yourself. Working life is a bit cumbersome for a young me, but I guess it’s just the beginning. Maybe I’ll get to adjust with time. By the way, how have you been managing financially? I thought having a job is the key to all my financial struggles but I still end up financially depressed.
Carrey : ( Wearing a serious facial expression ) Chailer, managing finances is something that requires a lot of discipline. Getting a job is never a solution to all your financial requirements. Instead, financial management is the principle you need to get through your financial struggles.
Chailer : I have been trying Carrey, but why do I still end up in a financial in financial crises? There is no month that passes without me seeking for help from my mom or Trion-
She is cut short by Carrey enthusiastic about the topic.
Carrey : Speaking of Trion, when are you guys planning to get married? You have been dating since forever. Or are you planning to date for the rest of your lives?
Chailer : ( Smiling knowingly ) Carrey, you’ve never stopped poking your nose into other people’s businesses?
Carrey : Sweetheart, whose business will I poke my nose into if not yours? You know you’re the only girlfriend I have.
Chailer : And you expect me to believe that after spending two months without creating time for us?
Carrey : I know girlfriend; I’ll make it up to you soon. We could go shopping and get a relaxing spa. What do you think?
Chailer : You’re a manipulator, I’m always in. You know me more than that. Back to business, can you help me manage my finances? You’ve always been a nerd, girl.
Carrey : ( Rolling her eyes playfully ) Nerd my foot! Aren’t you the one who had a first class honors while graduating?
Chailer : Here we go again, must we always talk about that? You’re a PhD holder yourself. You know I can’t stand dumb friends.
Carrey : Fine, you always win anyway. Here’s the thing; just as I said earlier, all you need is self-discipline. Secondly, you will need to start practicing financial planning. You need to understand your income and expenditure and note it down, then come up with a monthly budget. In your plan, you need to include ways of how you will consolidate your debts and slash off avoidable expenses. Another important aspect you need to be keen about is your personal savings.
Chailer : What will I save from my salary if I can’t have enough cash to last a month? I’m even thinking of getting a part time job.
Carrey : Didn’t you learn communication skills? Allow me to finish my explanations before you can start with your self-pity.
Chailer : ( Chuckles in surrender ) Fine, go on girl.
Carrey : ( Smiles in victory ) Good. You need the savings for your wedding that you haven’t even planned for and for your future retirement plans. You also need to set aside money for emergency, you know I won’t exist forever.
Carrey’s husband appears from behind the patio and surprises the two ladies.
Pearlt : ( In excitement ) Honey, check this out! I got exactly what you need to stop your complaints on budgeting and savings.
Both ladies jump out of their seats.
Carrey : Holy heavens! You didn’t have to scare us. What’s that?
Pearlt : ( Pecking his wife on the lips ) I’m sorry love. It’s a financial app that you can download on your phone called Sqrrl. It will help you manage your budgeting and savings in very simple steps. It’s an easier option to help especially when you feel confused about savings, investments and returns. Also, it’s an easier way of linking with your savings accounts anywhere at any time.
Carrey : Girl, I guess today was your lucky day. This is the solution to all your troubles.
Chailer : Sure, I’m so glad I passed by today. Thank you so much for the ideas you have shared today. You’ll reap the fruits of your labor in due time. I have to leave now though; I have to meet Trion for a dinner date. Thanks for the drink and your time.
Pearlt : I hope I’m not the cause of your departure.
Chailer : Not really, I was about to leave before you arrived.
Carrey : You’re welcome girlfriend. (Feigning sadness) I thought this afternoon was all for me but as usual, I’m always wrong.
Chailer : We’ll catch up soon. Don’t forget our day out.
Carrey : Sure.
They bid each other goodbye and Carrey sees Chailer off.
Narrative Script Defense
As bad as it sounds, so many people still struggle when it comes to management of money resources. Misuse of financial resources is a major challenge faced by many Americans, especially those on monthly payrolls. As it is now, most Americans have not learnt on better ways of managing their financial resources as compared to other developed countries (Joe, 2016). Sqrrl app, that can be downloaded on the phone, could be the perfect solution to these financial confusions.
My choice of characters is majoring on women. Women despite being spendthrift, are always more financially alert compared to men ( Adhikari, 2018) . They tend to worry much about being broke but still end up doing impulse purchases. Additionally, they are more open to seeking for advice from their peers as compared to men. Therefore, the most suitable narrative technique is dialogue ( Tong et al., 2018) . Also, women are more open at expressing their facial expressions as compared to men. Thus, the character roles best fit women. The target audience is any social group that includes both genders; but majorly targeting the working class as a breakthrough for their financial struggles during financial management.
The major conflict behind the script concerns money wastage or poor money management. From the script, the hero is Carrey since she is the one on the knowhow regarding money management. The conflict friction occurs when both Carrey and Chailer argue about how to manage financial resources amidst limited resources. Carrey has to win in order to bring out the aspect of financial management. In order to bring in a slight twist, Carrey’s husband plays the role of the one who brings up the aspect of the latest app that will be a more suitable for both ladies. It comes in at the right time to the aide of both Carrey and Chailer. The target audience will access information concerning the app within a short period of time.
