9/11 reflects September 11 a day when terrorists attacked America leaving many Americans dead. It was in 2001 when a series of four coordinated attacks by Alkaid terrorists hit the U.S. The four attacks killed approximately 2977 people leaving behind above 25000 injuries. Further, it left behind approximately 10 billion wealth destroyed inform of infrastructure and property. During the date, Americans understood the real meaning of terrorism and the importance of addressing security issues with seriousness. Pre 9/11, the term terrorism attacks was heard on the news with everyone assuming that America could not fall victim. A close analysis of the pre and post 9/11 terrorist attacks will help define the American security sector and the changes of post 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Changes in Security Industry Post 9/11

The security industry experienced uncountable changes after the 9/11 attacks. The changes included positive and negative. Among the negative change is a high level of suspicion heightened upon non-Americans in the United States. Since non-Americans facilitated the 9/11 attacks, Islamic communities living in America experienced a high level of suspicion. It led to harassment by security officers, random security searches in the residential places, and even high-security check-ups in airports, train stations, and bus stops. According to Yitzhak (2016) security officers were cautioned against taking security scans for granted. Therefore, stakeholders in the security industry insisted on the importance of using proper scanning gargets before clearing members of the general public to go into buildings and public places. The government aggressively addressed the issue of terrorism ( Yitzhak , 2016). It involved deploying more security officers to guard the airports, stadiums, and train stations as a strategy of avoiding such an occurrence in the future. The government also increased the number of intelligence officers operating in foreign lands to determine how the attack was planned and prevent a similar one in the future. They further hired more Americans to join the police force and the military as a way of getting prepared to prevent future terrorist attacks. In addition, counter-terrorism was made part of police training to ensure that all security officers understand where they can identify a terrorist and stop them from their ill motives. The American foreign policy that defines how the United States interacts with other nations was readdressed to prevent a rope hole for terrorists. The policy was readdressed to ensure that it defines how America relates to nations that support terrorism in a different way that fight it. The policy was further amended to ensure that it defines the operations of Americans operating in a foreign land and how the U.S would treat foreigners operating in U.S soil. The government came up with the department of homeland security as a post in the federal government responsible for protecting America from terrorist attacks and also responding to natural disasters. The homeland security council was formed at the white house and charged with the responsibility of ensuring that another terror attack would not be witnessed. All securities guards operating in America should be in uniform and use scanning devices without overlooking the set procedures.

Comparison of Security in U.S Pre and Post 9/11

Before the attacks, it was the responsibility of the government to provide security to the citizens. Post 9/11the government formed the department of homeland security to operate under the federal government, leaving the president as the one responsible for providing security. Pre 9/11, the American foreign policy defines how the U.S relates to other nations. Although some changes were made to the policy, it remained as the source of direction on how the U.S relates to other states. Pre 9/11, it was the responsibility of the police to maintain law and order and fight crimes. Post 9/11, the responsibility of maintaining law and order remained to the police as the homeland security was charged with the responsibility of preventing a terrorist attack.

Contrast

Discrimination has been common in the U.S for many years. However, after 9/11, the discrimination took a different route as the members of the Islamic religion experienced a high level of discrimination and suspicion by both the police and civilians. It is contrary to pre 9/11, while African- Americans were the ones experiencing discrimination. In addition, the Islamic religion followers were attacked by members of the general public affecting their personal security different from pre 9/11, where no one bothered them. Before the attacks, the responsibility of guarding people against criminal activities was charged to the police. Contrary, after 9/11 the homeland security specialized in terrorism despite being part of the crime.

Purpose and Reasoning for Prioritization of Assets and Risks

Risk management is the process of identifying, controlling, and assessing threats to an organization. The threats could come from numerous sources, including legal liabilities, financial uncertainty, terrorism, natural disasters, accidents, or strategic management errors. The purpose and reasoning for prioritization of assets and risks is to come up with an outline of any expected risks and how they can affect the available assets leading to low performance or loss to the organization. Fouda & Fielding (2016) states that t he purpose of risk management is to ensure that whenever an organization experiences a threat that can affect its running, it is able to withstand. When the administration of an organization put in place risk management strategies, they end up listening on how to give priority to assets of the organization and all the risks that can affect the organization. Therefore, they are able to identify all possible threats and put in place counter-measures. In the process, the management is able to control threats hence safeguarding the capital and earnings of the organization. It guarantees financial certainty, legal stability, and elimination of management errors. Prioritization of assets and risk enables an organization to control threats ( Fouda & Fielding, 2016) . It saves money for the firm and guarantees a future for the organization. In cases where the threats become real, it minimizes the impact and builds more confidence to different stakeholders. It also creates a secure and safe working environment. It increases the level of stability and decreases legal liabilities. It offers protection from detrimental events to both an organization and the environment. It helps in establishing insurance for an organization hence a more promising future.

Concept of Risk Management

Risk management is the process used to safeguard businesses from falling in case of a threat. It is essential to apply risk management in running a state. Before pre 9/11, Americans were busy focusing on social, political, and economic activities without worry about security status. The 9/11 attack serves as an eye-opener on the issues of identifying, controlling, and assessing the threat to a nation. The wakeup call enabled Americans to come up with essential strategies of avoiding risks and threats such as the formation of the department of homeland security. In their critique, Javorsek et al., (2015) argues that the concept of risk management applies not only to business organizations but also to personal life. Human rights require an understanding of how to prevent issues that can negatively impact their lives, such as losing employment ( Javorsek et al., 2015) . They need to come up with an assessment, identification, and strategy of controlling the threat. It will ensure that life-threatening moment will not negatively impact their lives.

In conclusion, the September 11th 2001 terrorist attack is the most terrible attack to occur in the U.S. It was a sequence of four coordinated terrorist attacks causing death, injuries, and destruction of property. Despite being a bad experience, it sounds like an eye-opener to both the government and members of the general public. Americans learned that despite owning a superior military, a good government and modern technology, simple errors in security could cost them a great deal. The government learned the importance of bringing together all stakeholders in security without overlooking those in lower positions like security guards. It brought numerous changes to the American security system. The changes include emphasis on security check-ups by the government, and security guards, the formation of the department of homeland security, increased number of police officers in the airport, bus terminals, railway stations, and sports ground. The government also hired and trained more security officers. Although there exist a number of changes in pre and post 9/11, security procedures were accepted by all without oppositions. In business, one of the key strategies of success is risk management. It enables business owners to assess possible risks and counter them before they occur. The concept of risk management helps in saving a country form a high loss of life and infrastructure when applied in running human administration. Same principle was developed in the U.S post 9/11. Terrorism was identified as a major risk and the department of homeland security established as the management strategy to prevent the risk from occurring. It is a perfectly implied concept of risk management.
