A victimized self is an individual who is suffering from a mixture of complex thoughts and feelings, which could have been triggered by exposure to violence or being hurt by another person. Ordinarily, this condition usually arises when the victim starts to develop a sense of threat upon his or her life existence. These threats can occur in different variations. For instance, certain women may feel intimidated through actions such as verbal assaults, while other populations of women may even reach a point of committing suicide without realizing they are victims of these situations.

One of the aspects that contributes to this menace is the level of severity. Many authors have concluded that the intensity of harshness has an impact on the decision of a woman to abandon a violent situation. For instance, a woman who has been severally exposed to death situations such as being thrashed by an alcoholic husband may feel the urge to leave. Another catalyst of self-victimization is the change in its visibility. Typically, the impact of the external forces and definition of the woman’s situation can impact how the woman perceives the condition and can also appear in different formalities. This means that those opinions coming from close associates of the victim may have a significant impact on the victimization process. For instance, when outsiders do not condemn the actions of the abuser, then there is a high possibility of the woman being self-victimized. Another external influence that could promote self-victimization is the change in resources. It has been noted that the prime reason why women persevere in violent marriages could be because they lack other alternatives. The fourth aspect that contributes to most women becoming self-victimized is the changing circumstances in the relationship. For instance, when a woman stops receiving the feelings of love and kindness for an extended duration, then she might become self-victimized.
