A long time ago, in the small village of Mongolian empire lived a low-income family comprising of a mother and a son; Demarco, whose father had died during a war. Demarco used to help his mother in performing girl-gendered activities like fetching firewood and water. In one fateful day, Demarco was sent to fetch water with the fellow female friends namely Jean, Rose, Christabel, Abigail, Racheal, and Alexandra. Even though Demarco was the only boy in the, he was the oldest of the group. On this particular day, the seven friends went down to the river to fetch water from the river as usual. Usually, they had to go through thick forest before reaching the source of the water. Therefore, they often would hurry up and return home as soon as possible.

This was not the case on that day. On reaching the river, the kids decided to play for a while before filling their water skins and returning home. While fetching water, the children noticed that there were men who were riding on horses and approaching their direction. They became scared, mainly because the men wore fierce faces. The children felt intimidated and helpless because they were away from their homes. The men surrounded and closed them in a circle before they could think of running away.

“Come here you little boy,” one of the men called Demarco with a loud voice. Demarco became scared and feeble to the extent that he started shaking. Demarco and the six girls could not move. The men, who were ten in number alighted from the horses and grabbed the children. They drag them through to the horses where they tied them tight and moved fast into the thick and dark forest. The entire time, the children remained as silent as the grave with none of them knowing what was awaiting them. After a long ride of almost an hour, they reached a deserted home-like place in the middle of the forest. There was no sign of life in the compound. The children were dropped down from the horses like luggage before they were taken to a dark corner where they were tied against the horses on poles with leather ropes. The men later returned to the homestead where they started arguing over food.

“We cannot eat that rabbit. What will we tell boss if he requests for something to eat?’ asked the first man. “There is only one rabbit. He can hardly get satisfied even if we gave the rabbit to the boss.” Said the second man. Another man from the house shout, “we should have a taste of the rabbit and have a feeling of how the king feels.” Furthermore, they have six little girls and a boy. We can choose one of them and cook for him.

Demarco was almost fainting on hearing the comment. He could not imagine him being someone’s meal. From wherever he was tired, he could see the men fight over the rabbit. Suddenly, he sees a tall man with a broad chest like that of a giant. “This must be the king who is supposed to eat one or even all of us,” Demarco said to himself. The serious-looking man approached the rest of the team and asked them what they had for the slave trade. Excitedly, they all stated that they had adapted six little girls and a nine-year-old boy. For a while, the boss was happy to hear that they had a boy. However, his happiness did not last long. He was not pleased with the choice of the men.

“He is useless,” the boss said while facing Demarco from afar. He continued saying that slave traders despised older boys because they tend to be arrogant and liberal thus becoming difficult to control them. One of the men removed his dagger from the waist pocket and walked towards Demarco. Filled with fear of being eaten, Demarco cried aloud. “Please do not eat me.” The man used the dagger to cut the rope that had passed across his chest and allowed him to leave. Demarco left and disappeared in the dark forest where he navigated his way back home. The girls were not releases. For that reason, he planned to save them before they could be sold as slaves or even be used as a meal.

Despite the young age of Demarco, he had a rare talent; he had a photographic memory. He could picture and store the image of everything and everywhere he passed through. Therefore, it was easy for him to trace his way home through the dark forest. On reaching home, he tells the villages of what had happened, but none of them believed him except the chief. So, the king authorized that the army should come together in operation to save their children from the slave traders. They decided to start the journey in the evening so that they could reach the forest while it was still dark. Demarco was the leader of the troop. The trip was long, and the majority of the people who accompanied the army went back home halfway.

After a long walk, they finally arrived in the camp where they found the six girls sleeping in the same position that Demarco had left them. First things first, the children were saved before the war was started between the villagers and the adopters. Unfortunately, the men heard the noise before the kids could walk any far. There broke a confrontation between the two sides. At that moment, Demarco was leading his friends through the forest but using a different direction to mislead the men in case they decided to follow them.

What goes around comes around. In the same manner that the men surrounded and enclosed the children at the river, it was their time to feel hopeless and desperate in front of the angry crowd. The men were not from the community, and they were in the region illegally. Therefore, they were bitten thoroughly before their homes being invaded, destroyed, and finally burned. Consequently, the aliens were excommunicated and escorted from society until they reached their land. The king ensured that the community paid a fine to his people as a way of apologizing for acting against his community. Back in the village, Demarco was already a hero he was highly celebrated and praised by all people from the old to the young. At the age of nine, Demarco was named the first hero of all times in the small village. His actions of bravery were celebrated all over the Mongolian empire. Demarco became the favorite of the community who gifted him and his mother many gifts. This was the turning point of the lives of this low-income family as they became wealthy from the gifts they received from the villagers all over the Mongolian empire.
