That pregnant women need to eat for two is among the notions that science has attempted to shed light on. In the article Should Pregnant Women Eat for Two, focus is given to whether the commonly-held belief that pregnant women should eat more is founded on sound science. Having explored the dangers of excessive eating, the article offers practical advice that pregnant women can integrate into their lifestyles. Consuming fruits and vegetables is among the recommendations that the article offers. In such nations as Finland and the United States, pregnant women who embraced dieting were able to keep their weight at healthy levels (“Should Pregnant Women”, n.d). The article concludes by indicating that there lacks clarity regarding the appropriate amount of food that pregnant women should consume.

There are various reasons that informed by decision to select the article summarized above. The fact that it sheds light on an important issue is the main reason. I have heard many people advise pregnant women to eat more. While I have always felt that this advice is dangerous and lacks a scientific basis, I lacked facts to support my belief. Thanks to the article, I now understand that women do not need to consume excessive amounts of food when pregnant. I also selected the article because I wished to understand the adverse effects that eating too much can have on the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies.
