Technology has been known to be fundamental in inspiring social change. Across the globe, it has helped in fostering progress and driving the development and growth of both cultural values and social structures (Edel, 2018). Therefore, technology and social change is basically concerned with the way technology and its advancement has been used to shape the change that we continue to witness in the social context of the society.
The main social problem faced in Brownsville Brooklyn is the incarceration of black men and boys in masses. This is a social problem which poses serious economic consequences on the society. The incarcerated individuals hardly secure stable employment upon their release due to the history of having been incarcerated and of their criminal records (Emmert, 2018). Therefore, embracing advocacy and technology will play a pivotal role in trying to solve this social ill and stir social change in this community.

One of the ways through which this social ill can be addressed will be through advocacy where I will partner with Human Right’s Activists and Non-Governmental Organizations to see to it that the problem of racial profiling, stereotyping and unlawful incarceration is tackled by airing it on national media. With the increased use of the internet in the community, material touching on the fundamental human rights will be availed online and made easily accessible not only to this population but to the rest of the citizenry. Funding for such widespread dissemination of information via the mainstream media and on online platforms will be made possible by liaising with NGOs which in turn receive grants from national and international organizations that spearhead the implementation of Human Rights. This, in effect, will ensure that this initiative does not hit a dead end.
In addition to this, I will embark on conducting a social media campaign mainly targeting the male black population in Brownsville. This will focus on positive behavior change and avoidance of alcohol and drug abuse. Young African-Americans will be encouraged to embrace education as the key to their success. Online seminars will be held to emphasize the importance of leading meaningful and productive lives, as well as aiming to boost the self-esteem of this population.
In conclusion, it is evident that technology has had an impact on the various aspects of life such as communication, education and even relationships. Growth and change in the community has had a direct relationship with change and advancement in technology.
