The treatment of schizophrenia involves several interventions. The article dwells on the interventions applied to address different aspects of social cognition, such as affect perception, social perception, attribution style, and the theory of mind. The authors use a clinical trial design that entailed assigning participants to random social cognition and control intervention conditions. They mainly involved the outpatients who are most likely able to realize a positive outcome. The impairments in social cognition are common in today's social cycle since they determine the result of schizophrenia. The authors applied 34 outpatients as participants from VA Greater Los Angles Healthcare center in the clinical trial. They assessed the symptoms of schizophrenia, used psychiatric rehabilitation procedures such as automation of the skills through an aspect of repetition and intense practice and also applied social cognition assessment, among other critical interventions that aided in the proper analysis of schizophrenia.

The researchers observed that people who were placed under a social cognitive assessment program showed a positive response regarding affect perception. Also, the participants recorded a positive response to training since they perceived it as a vital impact in their lives. The article further dwells on the essential aspect of the inclusion of outpatients in the clinical trial designed to intervene on the challenges of social cognition. Since it is one of the novel practices in the treatment of mentally ill patients, its perfect outcomes depend on the ideal method applied and the cooperation by the participants of the study. The authors conclude by proposing the inclusion of social cognitive skills training programs in healthcare centers as an ideal intervention for the treatment of schizophrenia. The article is relevant to the study of the causes of schizophrenia and the control methods. The report is a vital work that would assist any psychiatrist and a researcher in performing an investigation of cases of schizophrenia and its outcomes through clinical trials.
