Bullying can be defined as aggressive behavior where a person intentionally and repeatedly causes another person physical injury or discomfort (Nikiforou, Georgiou & Stavrinides, 2013). Bullying is associated with many negative effects such as the impact on mental health, used of illicit drugs, and suicide. Therefore, the paper discusses the very vital step in learner’s guide to seeking more information that would be needed to look closely at bullying. It also looks at how bullying is linked to the agents of socialization.

Clear definition of the term “bullying” is very critical in the student’s guide to research and analysing bullying. First, it is important for the researcher to have a clear understanding of what constitutes bullying. By understanding what bullying is, a student or research will be in a position to carefully examine the phenomenon in detail and comes up with various causes and possible solutions. Besides, the researcher will be able to understand the concept of bullying in various scenarios. Therefore, having a clear understanding of what constitutes bullying will help in carrying out the analysis.

Finally, there is a close relationship between bullying and agents of socialization such as family, teachers, and school, and peers. Agents of socialization ensure that individuals understand the norms, values, and behaviors in the society (Nikiforou, Georgiou & Stavrinides, 2013). Therefore, it is the responsibility of agents of socialization, especially family and teachers, to ensure that students or children subscribe to the right values, norms, and behavior, which is instrumental in eliminating bullying (TEDx, 2014). On the other hand, when agents of socialization encourage bullying then the practice cannot be stopped. For instance, families that subject children to constant harassment encourage them to be bullying. At the same time, teachers and schools that do not guide students on how they should behave and interact promote bullying in learning institutions. Therefore, agents of socialization can encourage or discourage bullying.
